KS Flamurtari Vlora is an Albanian football club from Vlorë . The club currently plays in theategoria e parë , the second highest Albanian league.
history
Founded in 1923 under the name SK Jeronim Vlora , in 1930 under SK Vlora, the club received a new name in 1935: for ten years it was called KS Ismail Qemali Vlora after the founder of the state Ismail Qemali , before the current name KS Flamurtari for the first time at the end of the war (German: Sportklub Fahnträger ) gave. In 1949 as Vlora , the association was baptized in 1950 in Puna Vlora (German: Arbeit Vlora ). The next renaming took place eight years later, when the old name SK Flamurtari was again given, which is still used today. In 1930 the sports club was one of the founding members of the first championship .
The club had to wait until the 1980s before the first successes came about. In 1985 they won the first Albanian Cup against FK Partizani Tirana with a 2-1 win, and in 1988 they won the second triumph in this competition with a 1-0 win against the same opponent. There are also eight other finals in which the club was defeated. For example in 1990 against KS Dinamo Tirana on penalties . However, since they were national champions at the same time, they played against each other in the Albanian Supercup and Flamurtari won the title.
The nationally most successful year for Flamurtari was 1991, when they won the national championship and only failed on penalties in the cup final against Partizani Tirana. However, this one defeated in the Supercup, so that one could defend the title there and take home two trophies. Since then, the team in red and black has been waiting for a similar success and even had to enter the second division in 2004, from which they rose again in 2006.
Flamurtari took part in international club competitions ten times. In the 1987/88 season, the last sixteen of the UEFA Cup was reached after surprising successes against FK Partizan Belgrade and BSG Wismut Aue . There the Albanians failed, as in the previous year, against FC Barcelona . As one of the few clubs Flamurtari achieved an even European Cup record against the Catalans (1 win, 2 draws, 1 defeat).
Only in the 2011/12 season did Flamurtari survive another round of a European competition in a duel with the Montenegrin representative FK Budućnost Podgorica , but then failed to FK BAUMIT Jablonec .
In the 2019/20 season, Flamutari was second to last and had to relegate.
