Kai Koch

Kai Koch (born December 30, 1986 in Höxter as Kai Schmidt) is a German music teacher , music geragogue , university teacher , organist and choir director .

Career

After graduating from high school at König-Wilhelm-Gymnasium Höxter and the subsequent community service, Koch studied educational science and school music at the Detmold University of Music from 2007 with the artistic main subject organ with Tomasz Adam Nowak . He completed this course of study with a second subject in chemistry, which he took at the University of Paderborn , in 2011 with the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools and comprehensive schools .

From 2011 to 2012, Koch completed a master's degree in music and creativity (majoring in organ with cathedral organist Thomas Schmitz ) at the local music college in Münster , before passing his second state examination at the Münster Peace School in 2013 . He continued to work at the same school as a substitute teacher and since 2014 as a teacher in the church service. In August 2016, he moved to the Evangelical Trifels-Gymnasium Annweiler in the same position .

From 2014 to 2015, Koch studied interpretation of choral music with Jörg-Peter Weigle at the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin and completed this with a thesis on “Age Limits in Choirs” with another Master of Music (M.Mus. ) from.

2017 he was awarded an empirical work to the choir singing at the age at the Institute for Talent Research in Music (IBFM) at the University of Paderborn in Heiner Gembris with summa cum laude in professional music education doctorate. After teaching positions (for the subjects of music education , musicology and academic writing ) at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg , the Musikhochschule Münster , the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim and the International University of Cooperative Education in Heidelberg , Koch continues to be a speaker at lectures and workshops and as an editor and as an author of scientific publications (including music didactics and music geragogy ). Koch's compositions and arrangements have been published by Gustav Bosse Verlag , Bärenreiter , Helbling, Edition Impronta and Edition Ferrimontana.

In the 2018 summer semester, Koch was appointed professor for music education in social work at the Catholic Foundation University in Munich .

He has been married since 2011 and lives with his wife and son in Ludwigshafen am Rhein .

Music geragogical work

In cooperation with the founders of music geragogy, Hans Hermann Wickel and Theo Hartogh , Koch is primarily involved in this area of music education through the senior choir leadership division ; Examples of this are the empirical dissertation on this topic, the founding of the network "Singen im Alter" (Germany-wide senior choir database , bibliography, announcements and reviews of practice materials) and membership as an assessor on the board of the German Society for Music Geragogy (DGfMG eV).

He has been giving a lecture on the subject of singing in old age since 2014 as part of the nationwide advanced training in music geragogy at the Münster University of Applied Sciences (including in Engers / Neuwied, Münster and Hammelburg). In addition, Koch gives lectures on the subject of "Singing in old age" at home and abroad, publishes choral literature especially for senior choirs, is present at specialist conferences on the subject of singing in old age and was available in (radio) interviews for music-educational questions.
