Kamil

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kamil is a male given name in several cultures .

Origin and meaning

Christian cultures

The Slavic first name Kamil (as diminutive Kamilek ) , which is particularly common in Poland and the Czech Republic, comes from the Latin cognomen Camillus , which originally referred to the function of an often underage servant. Camillus was therefore often a child who had to descend from free, still living parents. Therefore, the meaning of the name is given as “respectable”, “noble”, “from an innocent marriage” or “born free”. The Latin word, however, is in turn traced back to Greek γαμήλιος ( gamelios ) with the meaning for "wedding" or "festive".

Islamic cultures

The Arabic adjectiveكامل / kāmil means “perfect”, “perfect” and “decent”, in this respect the name Kamil is represented in numerous dialects and is related to the first name Kemal .
