Kantsi (until 1977 Kansi ; German Ganzenhof ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) on the third largest Estonian island of Muhu . It belongs to the rural community of the same name ( Muhu vald ) in the Saare district ( Saare maakond ).

Description and history

The village has 15 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located in the center of the island, not far from the main town Liiva .

The place was mentioned in the 16th century under the name Loysis or Lechtis . In 1534 the estate went to a certain Peter Gans, and four years later to the small island of Kantsilaid (German Gantzenholm ) between Saaremaa and Muhu . The current estonized name of the village comes from the Gans family, who owned the farm until 1654.
