The District of Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe was 2015 a French canton in the Arrondissement of Alençon , in the Orne department and in the region of Basse-Normandie ; its main town was Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe , the representative in the General Council of the Département was Christophe de Ballore from 2001 to 2015 (re-elected in 2008).

The canton was 151.89 km² and had 4,499 inhabitants (1999), which corresponded to a population density of 30 inhabitants per km². It was on average 169 meters above sea ​​level , between 132 m in Hauterive and 224 m in Boitron .
