Karl Friedrich von Voss (born May 16, 1733 in Gotha ; † 1810 in Weimar ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of the foot hunter regiment .

Life

Friedrich Karl was the son of Christian Karl von Voss (* 1693; † October 15, 1763), colonel in the princely bodyguard on horseback in Saxe-Gotha, and his wife Magdalene Friederike, née Janus von Eberstedt.

Military career

From 1746 Voss was a page with Duke Friedrich III. On August 18, 1751 he was employed as an ensign in the Gothar's body regiment on foot and there on January 17, 1753 a lieutenant . As such, he entered Prussian service on October 1, 1756 and took part in the Battle of Lobositz . Shortly afterwards, on October 16, 1756, he joined the former Saxon regiment "von Flemming" as a prime lieutenant . In the further course of the Seven Years' War Voss took part in the siege of Prague , the fighting at Zorndorf and Kunersdorf , the capture of Küstrin and the battle at Driesen . In the meantime he had come to the Hordt Free Regiment on March 1, 1758 and finally rose to the position of captain and company commander on November 2, 1760 . After the Peace of Hubertusburg , the regiment was released and Voss was transferred to the retinue of King Friedrich II .

On October 4, 1773, Voss joined the foot hunter battalion as a company commander. As a major he then took part in the battle near Jung-Buchlau during the War of the Bavarian Succession . In March, Voss became the commander of the foot fighter regiment and a lieutenant colonel . On May 21, 1789, he was promoted to colonel and on June 8, 1789, he received the order Pour le Mérite for his long service .

When Major General des Granges retired, Friedrich Wilhelm II handed him the position of head of the regiment on October 26, 1790. With the regiment Voss took part in the campaign of 1792/94 in the battle of Pirmasens , the siege of Mainz and Verdun , the cannonade of Valmy and the battles at Hochheim, Kettricher Hof, at Schäntzel and at Schorleberg. In the meantime Voss had become major general on January 18, 1793.

On May 20, 1799 he was promoted to lieutenant general and on August 24, 1804 he was awarded the Great Red Eagle Order . On September 20, 1805, Voss graduated with a pension of 1200 thalers . After the collapse of Prussia in 1806, this pension was reduced by half.

Voss had married on September 25, 1795 in Mittenwalde Amalia Friederike Ernestine Wilhelmine von Voss (* February 5, 1763 in Göttingen ; † January 25, 1809 in Weimar). She was the daughter of his late brother.
