Karl Georg von Loebell (born October 2, 1777 in Pohbuschen bei Erwahlen ( Kurland ), † October 15, 1841 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and city ​​commander of Berlin.

Life

Karl Georg came from the noble family von Loebell and was the son of the Prussian Prime Lieutenant Karl Ernst Adam von Loebell (1740–1789), Herr auf Pormsahten and his wife Margarethe Gottliebe, née von Korff (1746–1804).

Military career

Loebell visited the cadet house in Berlin and on March 8, 1794 was transferred as an Estandartenjunker to the cuirassier regiment "Sachsen-Weimar" of the Prussian army . With this he took part in the battles at Mechenheim and Edinghofen during the campaign in 1794 and was assigned to the observation corps in Westphalia with his regiment after the Treaty of Basel . As a second lieutenant (since June 5, 1796) Loebell became adjutant to Major General von Quitzow on December 9, 1805 . During the battle of Jena and Auerstedt he was able to distinguish himself particularly. After the surrender of Prenzlau he escaped capture and made his way to East Prussia . Here he took part in the last battles of the 1807 campaign as a staff assistant to the "von Wedel" dragoon brigade . After the Peace of Tilsit he was promoted to Rittmeister and appointed squadron chief in his regular regiment. On April 5, 1812, he was promoted to major .

As such, Loebell fought in the Wars of Liberation against Napoleon in 1813/15, initially in the Battle of Großgörschen , for which he was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and after the Battle of Leipzig with the Cross I. During the 1815 campaign , he became the commander of his regiment on May 17th. After the end of the war, he was promoted to colonel on October 9, 1815 . Loebel gave up command of his regiment in November 1816 and was given the post of commander of the 8th Cavalry Brigade in Erfurt . As major general he was commissioned from March 30, 1832 for a period of two years to lead the 8th Division and then appointed commander of the large association. Another two years later he became lieutenant general. During that time he was also entrusted with running the business as the commandant of Erfurt. For his services Loebell was on 15 September 1838 the Red Eagle , First Class with oak leaves, on October 5, 1838 the Order of Saint Anna , First Class, and on 31 October 1839 the Grand Cross of the Ducal Saxe-Ernestine House Order honored .

King Friedrich Wilhelm III. appointed Loebell on January 27, 1840 chief of the rural gendarmerie and commander of Berlin. In this position, he reported to the king several times about the condition and insufficient equipment of the gendarmerie. In the spring of 1841 Loebell fell seriously ill and, after his health deteriorated, he died in October of that year.

His grave is in field IV of the Berlin garrison cemetery.

Loebell had been married to Emilie Luise Friederike Philippine Dorothea, née von Uebel (1789–1869), since January 17, 1811. The marriage had six children:
