Oswald Ernst Ludwig von Loebell (born April 24, 1823 in Erfurt , † December 23, 1898 in Hanover ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Oswald was the son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Karl Georg von Loebell (1777–1841) and his wife Emilie, née Uebel (1789–1869).

Military career

Loebell graduated from high school in his hometown and joined the 6th Cuirassier Regiment of the Prussian Army at the end of October 1839 . There he was promoted to second lieutenant in mid-November 1840 . As such, Loebell was transferred to the infantry on June 19, 1851 and employed in the 25th Infantry Regiment . Three days later he rose to prime lieutenant and was from August 30, 1852 as a company commander to III. Battalion in the 25th Landwehr Regiment. In this capacity Loebell was promoted to captain on July 21, 1856 and appointed company commander on June 19, 1859 after completing his command . As major and commander of the 1st battalion, he took part in the fighting at Langensalza , Uettingen and Roßbrunn as well as the bombardment of Würzburg in 1866 during the German War .

After the end of the war he was employed as a commander of the fusilier battalion and on March 22, 1868 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . With the beginning of the war against France , Loebell was appointed commander of the Hanoverian Fusilier Regiment No. 73 for the duration of the mobilization . He led his regiment in the battles at Colombey and Gravelotte as well as in the siege of Metz . Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , Loebell was promoted to colonel on the day of the imperial proclamation and confirmed as regimental commander for the peace relationship on March 29, 1871. family

Loebell married on October 19, 1859 in Marburg with Adelheid Pauline von Ditfurth (1835-1911), a daughter of Maximilian von Ditfurth . The marriage resulted in the son Karl Arthur (* 1860), Prussian captain and Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John, and the daughter Gabriele (* 1863).
