Anton Ludwig von Petery

Anton Ludwig von Petery (born July 3, 1780 in Guttstadt , † August 21, 1851 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of the Spandau fortress . He was the first person to be awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class after the foundation .

Life

His parents were Johann Heinrich von Petery (* 1747; † March 9, 1805) and his wife Dorothea Sophie, née Frommel. The father was a Prussian captain , most recently head of the disabled company of the infantry regiment "von Diericke" .

Military career

In 1794 Petery joined the infantry regiment "von Wildau" of the Prussian army as a corporal . There he became an ensign in the regiment's depot battalion on June 21, 1795 and on October 1, 1795 with a patent from October 4, 1795 in the regiment. On October 5, 1797, he was promoted to Second Lieutenant before he was transferred to the "Fabecky" grenadier battalion on June 1, 1799. The battalion consisted of the grenadier companies of the regiments "von Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen" and "von Diericke". In the Fourth Coalition War , Petery took part in the defense of Thorn , fought in the Battle of Prussian Eylau and in the battles near Pompecken and Königsberg .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Petery joined the 3rd East Prussian Infantry Regiment on January 1, 1808 and was promoted to captain until March 1813. During the wars of liberation he acquired the Iron Cross II. Class in battle near Halle, the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class near Luckau and the Iron Cross I. Class on July 11, 1813. On August 14, 1813, Petery was promoted to the Kolberg Infantry Regiment and at the end of November 1813 to major . In the battle at Namur he was wounded and commended. Petery took part in the battle at Compiegne and the siege of Soissons as well as the battles at Dennewitz , Ligny and Belle Alliance . On May 30, 1814 he received the Order of the Sword .

On April 19, 1815 Petery was appointed commander of the Fusilier Battalion and in this position was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1821 with a patent from April 8, 1821 . This was followed by a position as commander of the 24th Infantry Regiment from April 6, 1822 . In 1825 he received the service cross . On March 30, 1834, he was transferred to the Spandau Fortress as commandant . There he was on 30 March 1835 the character as a major general and to June 15, 1838 premium of 500 Taler. On June 11, 1839 he was promoted to major general with a patent dated March 30, 1835. Petery was given the character of Lieutenant General and the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on March 11, 1843, with an annual pension of 1750 thalers. From April 5, 1843, he received a personal allowance of 200 thalers to his pension. On August 3, 1843 he was senior of the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He died in Potsdam on August 21, 1851.

Petery married on March 11, 1805 in Prussian Holland Antoniette Wilhelmine Ernestine von Kalckstein (* 1787; † August 12, 1825), a daughter of Major Friedrich Gottlob von Kalckstein. The couple had several children:

After the death of his first wife, he married on June 1, 1831 in Erfurt Adelheid Luise Karoline Amalie von Loebell (* February 25, 1811, † June 1, 1868), a daughter of Lieutenant General Karl Georg von Loebell . The marriage remained childless.
