Johann Karl Magnus Marschall von Sulicki (born December 13, 1803 in Gerbin , † January 31, 1877 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 31st Infantry Brigade .

Life

origin

Karl was a son of Friedrich Marschall von Sulicki (1775–1834) and his wife Friederike, born von Aschenbach (1781–1839). His father was a Prussian colonel and commander of the 8th Hussar Regiment . His younger brother Wilhelm (1820-1883) also became a Prussian major general.

Military career

After his upbringing in his parents' house, Sulicki joined the 4th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer on August 3, 1820 and was promoted to second lieutenant by the end of November 1821 . For further training he completed the General War School in 1825/28 and was assigned to the topographic office in 1830/33 . In mid-February 1832 he was aggregated to the 16th Infantry Regiment . On March 30, 1835 he was assigned to serve as an adjutant of the 14th Infantry Brigade . Leaving this position, Sulicki was transferred to the 31st Infantry Regiment on March 30, 1836 as Prime Lieutenant with a patent from December 11, 1834 . With the promotion to captain and the appointment to company commander , he served in this regiment from March 10, 1841. On April 7, 1842 Sulicki was transferred to the 42nd Infantry Regiment and at the end of June 1848 rose as a major to a regular staff officer . During the suppression of the Baden Revolution in June 1849, Sulicki took part in the battles near Philippsburg and Waghäusel as a major of the 17th Infantry Regiment . After Major von Bornstedt of the 2nd Battalion (Iserlohn) of the 16th Landwehr Regiment in Durlach was wounded, Sulicki took over command of this unit as a substitute. He led the Landwehr battalion in action near Oberweier and Kuppenheim , for which he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class with swords.

Sulicki received command of the 2nd Battalion in mid-October 1849 and rose to lieutenant colonel in late March 1853 . On April 4, 1857, he was appointed commander of the 8th Infantry Regiment and in this position was promoted to colonel on April 9, 1857 with a patent from October 15, 1856, and was awarded the Order of St. Anna II. Class in October 1857 . With the promotion to major general he was transferred to the officers of the army on May 31, 1859 on Sulicki and appointed commander of the 31st Infantry Brigade on June 14, 1850. With the award of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords on the ring, he was put up for disposal on September 3, 1861 with a pension .

After his retirement, Sulicki worked as a writer with articles on war history and published in the military weekly newspaper, among others . He died in Berlin on January 31, 1877.

Sulicki married Clara Sachse (* 1820) on February 26, 1845 in Burscheid . The couple had several children:
