Karl Neubert (Markscheider)

Karl Johannes Neubert (born June 14, 1900 in Oberplanitz ; † May 3, 1972 in Freiberg ) was a German mining engineer , excavator and university professor.

Karl Neubert passed his Abitur in 1919 at the Zwickau secondary school. He worked as a miner for a year and began studying at the Bergakademie Freiberg in 1920 . In 1923 he obtained his diploma as a mine separator and in 1924 his diploma as a mining engineer. He then worked for six months as an assistant to Karl Kegel .

In 1925 he took up a position as a steiger at the Gruhlwerk , later he worked there as a surveying and planning engineer. From October 1927 he worked as a chief miner on the Indonesian island of Belitung . In 1939 he returned to Germany. He remained without a permanent position for a while and joined the NSDAP . From November 1940 to August 1942 he was an assistant and surveyor in the mining department of the headquarters of the Rheinische Stahlwerke Essen . In 1941 he acquired the concession as a mine separator for the state of Saxony from the Freiberg Mining Authority and on April 30, 1942, was awarded a Dr.-Ing. PhD. Just a year later he completed his habilitation.

In 1943 he went to the Zwickau mountain school , where he set up a surveying climber class and headed it until 1949. In September 1949 he became a full professor of mine studies and institute director at the Bergakademie Freiberg . From 1951 to 1955 he also served as dean of the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy, and from 1956 to 1967 he was in charge of the Alte Elisabeth teaching pit . He retired on January 1, 1966 , but remained director of the Institute for Mine Surveying and Mining Damage until February 28, 1967 .

Karl Neubert was deputy chairman of the specialist committee for mine cutting at the Chamber of Technology . He was chairman of the working committee for rock mechanics and a corresponding member of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin.

Karl Neubert died in Freiberg in 1972. His grave is on the Donatsfriedhof in Freiberg . In 2006 the building of the Institute for Mine Surveying and Geodesy of the TU Bergakademie was named Karl-Neubert-Bau .
