Karl Ludwig Eberhard Freiherr Schenck zu Schweinsberg (born June 17, 1796 in Danzig ; † February 16, 1869 in Erfurt ) was a Prussian major general as well as a lord of Schmidthof and Loshausen .

Life

origin

Karl was a son of the Prussian major Karl Georg Schenck zu Schweinsberg (1748-1806), who died in the battle of Auerstedt , and his wife Juliane Amalie, née von Rottenburg (1773-1817). The Prussian major general Johann Friedrich Schenck zu Schweinsberg (1750-1819) was his uncle.

Military career

Schweinsberg visited the Berlin Cadet House and on June 2, 1813 was transferred to the 9th Reserve Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a porter ensign. During the wars of liberation he fought in the sieges of Stettin, Wittenberg, Gorkum, Antwerp and Soissons. He took part in the assault on Arnhem and the battles near Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig and Laon . On April 20, 1814 he came to the Klevesche Landwehr Infantry Regiment and from there on June 26, 1815 to the 2nd Rheinische Landwehr Infantry Regiment.

After the war, Schweinsberg was aggregated to the 27th Infantry Regiment on May 31, 1816, the 34th , October 31st, 1816 , and the 27th Infantry Regiment on May 1st, 1817, and was classified on June 14th, 1817. On March 31, 1829, he was transferred to the 31st Infantry Regiment as Prime Lieutenant . There Schweinsberg advanced to captain and company commander in mid-December 1831 . On August 18, 1837, he was transferred to the 10th Infantry Regiment with a patent from June 13, 1829 . Schweinsberg was promoted to major on March 30, 1840 and appointed commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 7th Landwehr Regiment. In this position he rose to lieutenant colonel in mid-November 1848 before being appointed commander of the 26th Infantry Regiment on December 4, 1849 and promoted to colonel on April 19, 1851 . On October 26, 1854, Schweinsberg was appointed commander of the 32nd Infantry Brigade , and on December 7, 1854, he was placed à la suite of his previous regiment. After he had been promoted to major general on July 12, 1854, Schweinsberg was given command of the 16th Infantry Brigade on May 7, 1857 . Under awarded the Red Eagle , he was on 14 May 1858 II. Class with oak board for disposition made. He was an honorary knight of the Order of St. John and died on February 16, 1869 in Erfurt.

family

Schweinsberg married on July 4, 1835 in Gotha Agnes Madelung (1800-1891), the widow of Major Karl Anton von Gilsa (1785-1833) to Siebertshausen and mother of Leopold von Gilsa and Julius Friedrich von Gilsa . The marriage resulted in the son Georg Karl (1836–1871), who died as a captain in Baden-Baden from the wound he had suffered during the siege of Belfort .
