Johann Friedrich Schenck zu Schweinsberg (born October 27, 1750 in Loshausen , † March 31, 1819 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general , chief of infantry regiment No. 9 and commander of the Invalidenhaus Berlin .

He was the son of Burghard Ludwig Freiherr von Schenck zu Schweinsberg (born November 20, 1710 in Hermannstein , † March 5, 1795 in Rülfenrod ) and his wife Karoline Juliane Maria Lucretia, born Freiin von Schenck zu Schweinsberg (born November 19, 1727; † March 9, 1788).

Military career

Schweinsberg joined the Hesse-Kassel Guard in 1768 and then became an ensign in the Leibregiment in 1771 . In 1774 he took his leave and, on the recommendation of Chamberlain Riedesel, transferred to Prussian services . Schweinsberg was hired on June 13, 1774 as Prime Lieutenant in the newly established Fusilier Regiment "Hessen-Philippsthal" No. 55 . Schweinsberg took part with the regiment in the War of the Bavarian Succession , became a staff captain in 1780, and the following year on February 28, 1781, he was already captain and company commander . As a major he was given command of the grenadier battalion on July 4, 1790. Schweinsberg led this in the First Coalition War in Champagne in 1792 and on the Rhine in 1793 and in 1794/95 during the campaign in Poland . He fought in the battle near Powonsk, for which he was awarded the order Pour le Mérite , the capture of Warsaw and the Battle of the Rawka . For his services during the battle at Sochaczew , Schweinsberg was promoted to lieutenant colonel on November 3, 1794 .

On March 20, 1795 he was commander of the infantry regiment "Jung-Anhalt" No. 53 and as such promoted to colonel on January 1, 1796 with a patent from January 14, 1796 . King Friedrich Wilhelm III. appointed Schweinsberg on March 15, 1802 chief of the infantry regiment "von Brehmer" No. 9 and also promoted him to major general on May 20, 1802.

In the Fourth Coalition War , Schweinsberg fought in the Rüchel Corps in the Battle of Jena in 1806 , was captured there seriously injured and brought to Nancy . In 1808 he returned from captivity. On August 5, 1809 he became the commander of the Invalidenhaus Berlin and in 1813 once again commanded part of the Berlin Landsturm as a leader .

Schweinsberg died on March 31, 1819 at the age of 68 and was buried in the Berlin Invalidenfriedhof . The tomb has not been preserved.

Schweinsberg married Henriette Maria Sylvia von Koschembahr (* 1766; † March 13, 1804 in Hamm ) in Prussian Stargard on May 18, 1782 . She was the daughter of the later Prussian Lieutenant General Melchior Sylvius von Koschenbahr . The following children were born from the marriage:
