Karl von Cranach

Karl Eugen Emanuel Lukas von Cranach (born November 15, 1809 in Craatzen, Soldin district , † August 25, 1900 in Dresden ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Karl was a son of the Prussian captain a. D. and Herr auf Kraatzen Christian von Cranach (1753-1824) and his wife Henriette, née von Häuseler (1772-1816). His brother Julius (1793-1860) was also a Prussian lieutenant general.

Career

Cranach visited the Berlin cadet house and on March 30, 1827 was transferred to the 34th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a portepeefähnrich . Promoted to second lieutenant on February 13, 1828 , he joined the 13th Infantry Regiment on May 14, 1829 and was appointed adjutant battalion in 1833 . Promoted to Prime Lieutenant on July 21, 1842 , he became a regimental adjutant in 1843. On April 23, 1844 he was commanded as an adjutant in the 14th Landwehr Brigade and on April 13, 1847 in the same capacity for the 13th Division . Cranach was promoted to captain at the beginning of May 1848 and resigned from the troop service on September 12, 1848 when he was appointed company commander . There he was promoted to major on November 10, 1855 and appointed battalion commander on July 13, 1857 . On January 17, 1860, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class, and on July 1, 1860, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . As such, on June 22, 1861, he became commander of the 20th Infantry Regiment . Promoted to colonel on October 18, 1861 , he received the Order of the Red Eagle III on January 18, 1863.
