Karl Ludwig Heinrich Freiherr von Preußer (born February 2, 1783 in Wehlau , † July 1, 1853 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His parents were the major a. D. , most recently in the "von Werther" dragoon regiment , Magnus Friedrich von Preußer (1752-1827) and his wife Friedrike Berhardine Auguste Leonhardine Dorothea, née von Buddenbrock (1763-1833).

Career

On August 1, 1796, Preusser joined the "von Werther" Dragoon Regiment of the Prussian Army as a private corporal and was promoted to second lieutenant until June 1799 . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Preußisch Eylau , acquired the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class near Heilsberg and also took part in the battles at the Passarge , near Königsberg and Bischofsheim. On June 16, 1807, Preusser received the order Pour le Mérite for Heilsberg . On November 16, 1807 he was transferred to the "von Zieten" Dragoon Regiment and on March 27, 1808, he was appointed Premier Lieutenant in the 1st West Prussian Dragoon Regiment. On April 12, 1809, Preusser took his leave to go into Austrian service. There he took part in the Battle of Znojmo during the Fifth Coalition War and was seriously wounded near Aspern .

On October 1, 1810, Preusser resigned in Prussian service, was aggregated to the 2nd West Prussian Dragoons Regiment and completed the General War School in Berlin by 1811 . In mid-October 1811 he rose to the rank of staff assistant master . When the war with Russia loomed, Preusser resigned on May 2, 1812 to enter Russian service. On February 6, 1813 he was appointed Rittmeister of the Russian-German Legion , and on September 2, 1813 he was promoted to major in the 1st Hussar Regiment. During the Wars of Liberation he took part in the blockade of Rendsburg and Harburg , fought at Kogel, Sehestedt and the Göhrde . Also at the battle of Wavre , Namur , Ligny and Belle Alliance . For Namur he received the Iron Cross II. Class and for Brunsmark the Order of Saint Anne II. Class. On June 2, 1814, Preusser had returned to Prussian service and on March 29, 1815, he was appointed squadron chief in the 8th Uhlan Regiment .

After the war he was aggregated to the 8th Dragoon Regiment, from which the 8th Cuirassier Regiment was formed. In 1825 he was awarded the service cross . On March 30, 1827, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on June 11, 1827, the 7th Cuirassier Regiment was aggregated . On March 30, 1829, Preusser was entrusted with the command of the 8th Uhlan Regiment and, with his promotion to colonel , was appointed regimental commander on March 30, 1830. This was followed a year later by his transfer to the 3rd Cuirassier Regiment . In this position Preusser received the Russian Order of Saint Stanislaus II class and the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow. Under awarding of the character he was on 20 March 1838 as a major general an annual pension of 1750 thalers for disposition made.

Preusser received the Order of St. John on March 25, 1840 and took his final farewell on July 1, 1853 with the previous pension. He died shortly afterwards on July 1, 1853, unmarried in Berlin and was buried on June 4, 1853 in the garrison cemetery. His long-time servant Johann Heinrich Noppeney and his family became heir.
