Karl Friedrich Ranisch , since 1871 von Ranisch (born January 5, 1815 in Gumbinnen , † December 12, 1873 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 20th Infantry Brigade.

Life

Karl was a son of the Prussian Rittmeister Friedrich Ranisch (1765–1848) and his wife Katharina Juliane, née Klein.

Military career

Ranisch attended the high school in Gumbinnen and the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . Subsequently, on August 8, 1832, he was transferred to the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as Portepeefähnrich and advanced to Second Lieutenant in mid-February 1834 . From May 1840 he was assigned to the Berlin Cadet House as an educator for two years. He then rose to the position of adjutant in the fusilier battalion. Various assignments as adjutant followed. First with the 2nd Landwehr Brigade, then with Major General von Koch , the commander of a troop division in and around Frankfurt am Main , again with the 2nd Landwehr Brigade, with the 3rd Mobile Division, again with the 2nd Landwehr Brigade and finally in the 1st division . After his promotion to captain Ranisch resigned on December 9, 1852 as a company commander in his regular regiment in the troop service. By the end of June 1864 he rose to lieutenant colonel and was commander of the 1st Guard Landwehr Regiment for the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the German War . During the demobilization he was aggregated into his main regiment on September 17, 1866 and promoted to colonel three days later and with the Crown Order III. Class excellent. On October 30, 1866, he was transferred to Münster as commander of the newly established Infantry Regiment No. 73 . In this capacity, Ranisch received the Order of the Red Eagle III on the occasion of the festival in January 1869 . Class with a bow.

With the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Ranisch took over command of the 2nd Landwehr Brigade on July 18, 1870, with which he participated in the enclosure of Metz and Soissons . He received the Iron Cross 2nd class, was promoted to major general on the day of the imperial proclamation in Versailles and was appointed commander of the 20th Infantry Brigade in Poznan on March 20, 1871 . Ranisch married on June 23, 1854 in Trempen Friederike von Below (1823-1900), a daughter of Lieutenant General Theodor von Below . The couple had a son and a daughter.
