history
The community was established to take account of the rapid increase in the Catholic population in Erlangen-Bruck after the Second World War . On November 11, 1962, the subsidiary church foundation Heilig Kreuz was founded as part of the parish of St. Bonifaz , which included the area of Äußere Brucker Straße and Brucker Angers. This was raised to a parish on August 24, 1967 and expanded to include the Brucker Höhe area, which was spun off by St. Peter and Paul . Around three years earlier, the Upper German Province of the Shoed Carmelites had agreed to take over pastoral care. The Carmelite Monastery was founded in 1967 and is integrated into the community center . The Carmelites are the only male Catholic order in Erlangen .
In the course of the parish elevation, the aim was to build a new parish church. This was built directly onto the existing community center. This was construction on September 15 in 1969 after a half years dedicated to be. The parish also has a kindergarten , a library and the youth club at Brucker Anger, founded in 1988 . Since 1982 there has been a partnership with the Diocese of Njombe in Tanzania and the St. Agnes Convent there , known as the Africa Circle . In 1991 a partnership with the parish of St. Johannes Baptist in Jena was established.
description
The circular building with a flat roof was built using lightweight concrete . It is structured by 15 semicircular protruding conches , whereby the prominent position of the choir and tower is marked higher conche. These are separated by stained glass ribbons designed by the painter Herbert Bessel from Rasch in the Nuremberg region . This construction bathes the interior in a dark light and allows an interesting play of light and shadow to come into its own. The decor of the chancel was created by the sculptor Blasius Gerg from Glonn in Upper Bavaria .
