Karwe (historically also Carwe ) is a district of the district town of Neuruppin in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district in Brandenburg . The village is located southeast of the central city of Neuruppin on the east bank of 807 ha large Ruppin Lake . The state road L 164 runs to the south and the L 167 to the north-east.
history
In 1356 a knight "de Karwe" is mentioned for the first time. The manor , which is described in detail in Theodor Fontane's “ Walks through the Mark Brandenburg ” , belonged to the von dem Knesebeck family from 1721 onwards . The most famous representative was the Prussian Field Marshal Karl Friedrich von dem Knesebeck (1768–1848), who was born in Karwe . A manor park that merges into the landscape was created under the influence of Peter Joseph Lenné . The manor house, built in 1724, was demolished in 1983. After 1990 Krafft Freiherr von dem Knesebeck and his family bought back parts of the property and set up the former horse stable as a residence, in which an exhibition “Fontane meets Knesebeck” can be seen.
Karwes Church was built from field stones in the late Middle Ages and has an octagonal pointed tower on the west side.
