Church Krangen

Krangen is a district of the city of Neuruppin in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district (Brandenburg). The place was an independent municipality until December 5, 1993.

Location and structure

Krangen is located around 7 km northeast of the city center of Neuruppin. Krangen includes the districts of Fristow , Zippelsförde and Zermützel as well as the residential areas Rottstiel and Tornow . The deserted areas of Rägelsdorf and Krangensbrück are also in the area .

History and special features

The place was first mentioned in 1397 under Krangen . The name is derived from krag which means circle or ring. Around 1490 Krangen belonged to the Ruppin rule of the Counts of Lindow-Ruppin, which was essentially imperial . The single-nave hall church of the place was built according to the design of the normal church by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in 1837 in the style of classicism under the direction of Christian Ludwig Jacoby based on drawings by building inspector Hermann. For cost reasons, however, the church did not have a church tower . In the church, which has been restored into a community center, there is a gilded chalice from 1582, as well as an organ made by the organ builder Albert Hollenbach .

Half-timbered houses from the 17th and 18th centuries stand on the edge of the Rundanger village .

On December 6, 1993, Krangen was incorporated into Neuruppin.

From 1985 to 2005 a former gravel pit near Krangen was used as a landfill for household waste. It was sealed and re-cultivated until 2012.

Krangen had 213 inhabitants at the end of 2016.
