Karl Kasimir Gottvertrau von Hülsen , since 1840 Count von Hülsen (born February 19, 1778 in Maraunen , † August 26, 1858 in Trimmau ) was a Prussian major general and a gentleman on meadow (district of Prussian Holland).

Life

origin

Kasimir was a son of District Administrator Karl Wilhelm von Hülsen (1734-1810) and his wife Eleonore Albertine Kasimira, née Countess von Schlieben (1751-1797) from the Birkenfeld family . His father was a staff captain a. D. , most recently in the “von Zastrow” infantry regiment and hereditary lord of Zohlen, Maraunen, Besseleck, Sudlack, Bauditten and Dynisten. His brother Hans Jakob Fürchtegott Kasimir (1776–1849) also became a Prussian major general.

Military career

Hülsen was brought up in his parents' house and on November 1, 1794, was employed as a private corporal in the von Hausen infantry regiment of the Prussian Army , where his brother also served. In 1794/95 he took part in the campaign in Poland and was promoted to second lieutenant by mid-July 1798 . From 1805 to 1806 he was used as a battalion adjutant and took part in the defense of Danzig and the battles near Halle (Saale) and Lübeck during the Fourth Coalition War. On June 10, 1807, Hülsen was promoted to Prime Lieutenant before he retired from the army with half his salary after the Peace of Tilsit in January 1808 . In mid-March 1808, he was allowed to leave as captain with permission to wear his uniform.

With the start of the Wars of Liberation , Hülsen returned to the army. On September 29, 1813, he became a major and battalion leader in the 3rd East Prussian Landwehr Infantry Regiment. For his behavior during the siege of Danzig Hülsen received the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class.

After the war he joined the salaried tribe of the 1st Königsberg Landwehr Regiment at the end of June 1816 and was appointed regimental commander on December 9, 1817. In this capacity, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1818 with a patent from April 13, 1818 . As such, Hülsen took over the 1st Landwehr Infantry Regiment on March 12, 1820 and was commissioned as a colonel with the leadership of the 1st Infantry Regiment on June 18, 1825 . From September 2, 1826 to March 25, 1832 he acted as regimental commander. After being given the character of major general, Hülsen was then retired with an annual pension of 1,400 thalers.

After his departure, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV raised him to the Prussian count on September 10, 1840. He died on August 26, 1858 in Trimmau.

Hülsen married Ulrike Ursula von Bodeck (1788–1865) in Prussian Holland on April 20, 1816 . The couple had two daughters:
