Kazimierz Brakoniecki

Kazimierz Brakoniecki (born December 12, 1952 in Barczewo , Warmia ) is a Polish poet, essayist , literary critic, translator of French literature and editor at the Borussia Foundation .

Live and act

After attending the Lyceum and graduating from high school in Olsztyn , Kazimierz Brakoniecki studied first Polish and then museology at the University of Warsaw . He completed his studies with a master's thesis on the poet Czesław Miłosz . In 1975 he published the first poems; the literary debut took place in 1979 with the volume of poetry Zrosty . In 1977 he worked briefly at the Ossolineum Library in Wrocław . In 1989 he met the German graduate theologian and translatorWinfried Lipscher , who was born in the same town in 1938. Brakoniecki founded the Borussia Foundation in Olsztyn in 1990 with Robert Traba , and as its representative he received the Lew Kopelew Prize in 2004 . Since September 1995 he has been the director of the Polish-French Center Côtès d'Armor in Olsztyn, and in 1996 he founded the Association of Friends of Brittany and France's Amitié .

Brakoniecki has been a member of the Polish Writers' Cooperative since 1989 and of the Polish PEN Club since 2003 . In 2007 he was in Berlin for the Literary Colloquium and then wrote the Berlin Diary .

Brakoniecki wrote over 20 books. His poems emphasize the lyric self and are reminiscent of the works of Walt Whitman . He dedicated some poems to Brittany and translated works by French poets who wrote about Brittany. His poems have been translated into German, French and Lithuanian.
