Winfried Lipscher

Winfried Aloysius Lipscher (born June 7, 1938 in Wartenburg , Warmia ) is a German theologian , interpreter , translator and publicist .

Life

Youth and education

Winfried Lipscher is the son of Franz and Hildegard Lipscher. He attended the Polish elementary school in Barczewo, then worked as an employee of the local city administration. In 1957, the family moved to the Federal Republic of Germany as part of the family reunification and first arrived at the Friedland camp . He passed the examination to become a court-authorized translator for the Polish language in 1962 in Düsseldorf, then attended the grammar school for working people and passed the Abitur examination in 1964. Between 1964 and 1971 he studied theology under Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI ), Karl Rahner and Johann Baptist Metz at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In March 1968 Winfried Lipscher was one of the 160 Catholic signatories of the memorandum of the Bensberger Kreis ; a memorandum on the question of the relationship between Germany and Poland. He completed his theology studies in Münster in 1971 as a graduate theologian.

Profession and positions

From 1971–2003 Winfried Lipscher was employed as an interpreter and translator at the Foreign Office in Bonn and thus worked as a spokesman for the German Embassy in Warsaw for four terms . He acted as an interpreter in almost all negotiations and discussions between the representatives of the governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and the People's Republic of Poland (since 1990 Republic of Poland). In November 1977 he was present as an interpreter at the meeting of Chancellor Helmut Schmidt with the Polish primate and Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński .

From 1980 to 1984 Winfried Lipscher worked as press spokesman for the German Poland Institute under the direction of Karl Dedecius in Darmstadt.
