Keitzer is a German deathgrind band that was founded in 1999.

history

The band was formed in 1999. The name was taken from Star Wars , as many members of the band were or are fans of it. From this the Dutch word “Keizer” was taken for “Imperator” and supplemented with a T, as the band meant that it “looks better and gives the word a certain hardness”. In 2001 the debut album … to Destroy the Planet Earth was released via Farewell Records , which was followed by a split release with Remains of the Day via Yellow Dog Records in 2003 . Keitzer was on tour with this band on two to three week European tours in 2001 and 2003 . In 2005 the second album Suicide Anthology followed on the same label . The following year they went on tour through Germany together with Antigama . In 2006 the band could also be seen at Fuck the Commerce . In 2007 another split release with Das Krill was released via Aggressive Plankton Records . In 2007 the group played at the Death Feast Open Air . In 2008 the band performed at Maryland Deathfest and again at Fuck the Commerce. In the same year and later in 2012 the group played on the Obscene Extreme . In 2007 it also went on tour through the east coast of the United States with Japanese Combat Radio Play . In 2008 the next album As the World Burns was released . The band has been five since 2008 and consists of the singer Christian Silva Chaco, the drummer Tim Terhechte, the bassist Simon Venig and the guitarists Michael Dölle and Nicolai Hinse, who replaced Claas Cynapolt. Chaco, Terhechte and Hinse have also been working together at Androphagous since 1997. The members of Keitzer come from Münster , Essen , Osnabrück and Stadtlohn . 2011, 2014 and 2016 came out with Descend into Heresy , The Last Defense , which was recorded in autumn 2013 Soundlodge Studio under the direction of Jörg Uken within five days over two weekends, and Ascension three more albums. The latter album was also recorded in the Soundlodge Studio with Jörg Uken, who can also be heard on the album as a guest musician. During this time the group held other concerts such as the Bloodshed Festival in Eindhoven in 2008 and 2011 and the Grind the Nazi Scum Festival in 2009 and 2014 . In January 2009 the band went on a tour with the Bremen band Minion and later that year contributed their version of A Welcome Breeze of Stinking Air to the sampler A Tribute to Nasum . In 2011 the group played at Chaos Blast Meating in Munich .

style

In an interview with Christian Hemmer from xxl-rock.com Nicolai Hinse stated that most of the songs are written by Christian Silva Chaco and a few by him. Chaco will also write the lyrics. With two songs on The Last Defense , the band released songs with German lyrics for the first time . In an interview with Leonidas Douras, Chaco named Bolt Thrower , Mortar , Acme , Nasum, Systral , Suffocation , Reversal of Man , Marduk and Discordance Axis as influences. Simon Dümpelmann from Rock Hard described the music on Ascension as a catchy Deathgrind who dares to experiment. In an interview with him, Simon Venig stated that Ascension , like The Last Defense , covers topics such as war, religion, death, conquest and submission. On the album there is also a German song called Übermensch . In the same issue, Gretha Breuer reviewed Ascension and noted that the band had already moved a bit away from Grindcore on its predecessor, whereas this portion had previously always dominated over the Death Metal portion. On the album there are epic interludes, quick "grind eruptions" and polyphonic growls . Dominik Winter from Metal Hammer stated that when the talk is of “German barb deathgrind”, then the name Keitzer should be mentioned. Descend into Heresy could stand up to international comparison. The songs are catchy and fast, typical of Grindcore. Rock'n'Roll Damnation shows influences from Breach and the Song Wrath black metal influences and bolt thrower borrowings. Influences of the band are Acme, Bolt Thrower, Botch , Mörser, Orchid , Reversal of Man and Systral. In an interview with him, Chaco stated that the band is often compared to Misery Index . Many band members would hear this band, but he could do little with the band. According to Winter, Keitzer does without correct texts, such as the early obituary . In the same issue, Thomas Strater reviewed Descend into Heresy . There are black metal riffs , old-school death metal and grindcore passages as well as bass-heavy vocals and a drumming that was taken from crustcore and d-beat . Groovy passages are rare. Jan Schwarzkamp from Ox-Fanzine wrote in his review of … to Destroy the Planet Earth that the music is suitable for fans of Metalcore , Death Metal and Speed Metal as well as for fans of Mörser. The sound is rough and powerful and the use of double bass is characteristic. A few years later, Ollie Fröhlich reviewed As the World Burns for the same magazine . A balanced mix of Grindcore and Death Metal is played on it, reminiscent of Misery Index or Mortar. The songs are mostly very aggressive at the beginning, by leaving out the electric guitar or by using breaks , the band then achieves the necessary variety. In another issue, Fröhlich discussed Descend into Heresy and noted that Keitzer can still be compared to Misery Index. The guitar sound is very middle-heavy, the vocals roared or growled and the music is a mixture of death metal and grindcore.
