Kernberge is the Jenas district , which is named after the shell limestone range Kernberge with its distinctive rock in the southeast of the city center.

Kernberge is 3.14 km² and borders in the north on the district Jena-Zentrum and Wenigenjena , in the west on Jena-Süd , in the south on Wöllnitz and in the east on Ziegenhain . The Saale is the natural border to Jena-Zentrum and Jena-Süd. On the Saale, belonging to Kernberge, lies the northern part of the Oberaue, which is separated from the built-up Kernberge by Bundesstraße 88.
