Kerstin Krieglstein

Kerstin Krieglstein-Unsicker (born July 23, 1963 in Erlangen ) is a German neuroscientist . She is the rector of the University of Konstanz . From October 2020 she will take over the office of rector of the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg .

Life

Kerstin Krieglstein studied after an early-High School in 1981 at the Elisabeth Marburg chemistry at the University of Marburg (1982-1984), Pharmacy at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (1984-1987) and Pharmacology at the University of Giessen (1988 -1990). In 1990 she was licensed as a pharmacist . 1990 Krieglstein in Marburg was with a dissertation on the structure of tetanus toxin and botulinum A toxin for Dr. rer. nat. PhD. As a post-doc , she was at the Faculty of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the University of California, Irvine (1990–1992), at the Institute for Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Philipps University of Marburg (1992–1993) and the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg ( 1993–1998) active. In 1997, Krieglstein completed his habilitation in anatomy and cell biology in Heidelberg. From 1998 to 1999 she was a Heisenberg Fellow (DFG) at the Institute for Anatomy and Cell Biology at Heidelberg University.

In 1999, Kerstin Krieglstein accepted a professorship for anatomy at Saarland University . In 2001 she switched to a professorship for neuroanatomy and became director of the Institute for Neuroanatomy at the University Medical Center Göttingen . In 2007 she accepted a professorship for anatomy at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg ; In 2009 she became director of the Department of Molecular Embryology . In 2010 she became Vice Dean for Structure, Research and Development at the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg. Since 2011 she has also been acting head of the Department of Neuroanatomy. From 2014 to 2018 she was dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg.

In 2007 she was accepted as a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina , the oldest scientific and medical scholarly society in German-speaking countries and the oldest permanent natural research academy in the world. Your training includes pharmacy as well as the interfaces to neurophysiological, neuroanatomical and cell biological research. Research focuses on neurochemistry , neurophysiology , neuroanatomy , growth factors , cell biology of neurons and molecular embryology.

On August 1, 2018, Kerstin Krieglstein took over the office of Rector of the University of Konstanz, succeeding Ulrich Rüdiger , who became Rector of RWTH Aachen University .

On May 27, 2020, she was elected rector of the University of Freiburg as the first woman in the history of the university . She will take up the position on October 1, 2020.

She is married and has two kids.
