history

Keune was first mentioned in 1487 with the name Koyne . The place name is derived from the Lower Sorbian word "chójca" for "pine".

Until 1815 Keune belonged to the Gubenische Kreis in the Kingdom of Saxony . As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Saxony had to cede part of its territory, which Keune also belonged to, to the Kingdom of Prussia . There the village was part of the district of Sorau (Lausitz) in the administrative district of Frankfurt in the province of Brandenburg . In 1818 Keune had 170 inhabitants, who had to give an estimate of 1,550 guilders to the forest rulership . On November 30, 1937, the spelling of the place name was changed from Koyne to Keune in the course of the National Socialist renaming of the place in Lusatia .

Most of Keune historically belonged to the town of Forst, the rest of the place was an independent municipality. This was also incorporated into Forst on April 1, 1940 together with the communities of Domsdorf, Eulo and Noßdorf . After the Second World War , the western part of the Sorau district was incorporated into the Cottbus district. Keune was initially in the Soviet occupation zone and from October 1949 in the GDR . During the district reform carried out in the GDR on July 25, 1952, the town of Forst and its districts were assigned to the newly formed district of Forst in the Cottbus district . After the fall of the Wall , the Forst district was renamed the Forst district , and for the district reform in December 1993, the Forst district was combined with three other districts to form the new Spree-Neisse district .
