Kevin Gravel (born March 6, 1992 in Kingsford , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League since July 2019 and for their farm team, the Toronto Marlies , in the American Hockey League is used.

Career

Kevin Gravel was born in Kingsford and played in his youth in Marquette for the Marquette Electricians and in the 2008/09 season for the Marquette Rangers in the North American Hockey League , the second highest junior league in the United States. In the same season, the defender came on three missions in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , but could not assert himself there. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season, Gravel moved to the Sioux City Musketeers in the country's highest-ranking junior league, the United States Hockey League (USHL), which scored six points in 53 games and then in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in 148th position was selected by the Los Angeles Kings . In the fall of 2010, the American enrolled at St. Cloud State University , following his father, who was also active for the St. Cloud State Huskies from 1977 to 1981 , but never made it into the professional field. Gravel also stayed at St. Cloud State for four years, during which time he studied finance and represented his home country with the U20 national team at the U20 World Cup in 2012 . After the 2013/14 season, in which he achieved his best personal statistics with 23 points in 38 games, the defender switched to the organization of the Los Angeles Kings, but initially only on the basis of a contract with the Manchester Monarchs , the Kings farm team of the American Hockey League (AHL). Gravel ended the AHL season 2013/14 with his first five appearances in the professional area and also spent the entire following season in Manchester, at the end of which he won the playoffs for the Calder Cup with the Monarchs . He then signed a corresponding entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings in July 2015 .

As expected, Gravel returned to the AHL at the beginning of the 2015/16 season and spent most of the season with the Kings new farm team, the Ontario Reign . In February 2016, however, the defender was appointed to the Kings squad for the first time and thus made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) a little later . After six AHL appearances for the Reign in October 2016, Gravel established himself in the NHL squad of the Kings over the course of the 2016/17 season and was subsequently used regularly.

In July 2018, Gravel signed a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent . In the same way, he moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs the following year .
