Kevin Schindler (born May 21, 1988 in Delmenhorst ) is a former German soccer player and current soccer coach .

Player career

Beginnings in Bremen

The striker began playing football with the Delmenhorster Turnerbund in 1993. From 1999 to 2006 he went through the youth teams of SV Werder Bremen , whose second team , who played in the Regionalliga Nord , he belonged from the 2006/07 season after good performance in the A-youth Bundesliga at the beginning of the season. On October 21, 2006, Schindler made his debut for Bremen's runner-up; in his 13 season appearances in the Regionalliga he scored three goals. In the Bremen Cup of the same season, Schindler achieved qualification for the 2007/08 DFB Cup with the second substitute for SV Werder by beating FC Oberneuland in the final .

Schindler signs autographs at Werder (2007)

From 2006 onwards, Schindler had been able to recommend himself for four appearances in the German U-19 national team and scored a goal during the latter and was also appointed to the Bundesliga squad of SV Werder, which was trained by Thomas Schaaf during the winter break of the 2006/07 season . On May 6, 2007, Schindler made his debut in Germany's top division. He had previously made his competitive debut for Werder's licensed team in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup on March 14, 2007 at the age of 18 and played two more games in the same competition.

Schindler was then nominated for the U-19 European Football Championship in Austria in 2007, but was unable to take part due to an injury. In the U-20 selection , Schindler played two more appearances in the dress of the German national team from September 2007, and from November 2007 he played for the U-21 selection .

In the 2007/08 season , Schindler came due to the competition in Bremen's storm, including Boubacar Sanogo , Ivan Klasnić and Hugo Almeida after one game each in the League Cup , the DFB Cup and the qualifying phase of the UEFA Champions League, as well as four games in the Bundesliga at the beginning of the season only used in the second team. In Werder's second team, he scored seven goals in 25 missions during the 2007/08 regional league season , thus helping to qualify the team for the newly founded third division . He also scored a goal in two other DFB Cup appearances for the second team, which defeated second division FC St. Pauli and reached the round of 16.

Loan players in Rostock, Duisburg and Augsburg

For the 2008/09 season , Schindler was loaned for a year to FC Hansa Rostock , who was relegated to the Bundesliga in the 2nd Bundesliga . After he had scored his first goal for Rostock in the first round of the DFB Cup in 2008/09 , he also scored his first goal in a professional league on matchday four. In total, he played in 32 second division games for Rostock against the threat of relegation to the third division , before extending his contract in Bremen until 2012 at the end of his loan.

For the 2009/10 season , Schindler was then loaned to the second division club FC Augsburg , but was hardly used for them during the first half of the season. His loan agreement with Augsburg was therefore terminated on January 31, 2010 and Schindler was loaned out to MSV Duisburg on the same day . After only three missions for Duisburg, however, Schindler had to undergo an operation on his knee at the end of March 2010, which ended the season for him.

Return to Bremen, change to Hamburg and Wiesbaden

In the summer of 2010, Schindler returned to Bremen, where he was also part of the Werders professional squad, but was only used for the reserve team, which was relegated to the 3rd division in 2010/11 , but due to the withdrawals of Ahlen and Koblenz in the league was allowed to remain. Schindler then left the club and moved to the second division FC St. Pauli , where he signed a one-year contract with an option in mid-August 2011. Here he was no longer called up in the storm, but in the right midfield. On February 28, 2014, he was informed that there were no more plans with him for the 2014/15 season and that his contract, which expired in summer 2014, would not be extended. On March 8, he first had to complete a regional league game in the second team, but was then used regularly in the first team until the end of the season.

From August 2014 to June 2017, Schindler was under contract with third division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden .

Moved to the United States

After his contract in Wiesbaden had expired, Schindler joined the US second division club FC Cincinnati in July 2017 . There he scored one goal in six games. At the end of the season, his contract was not renewed and Schindler was without a club.

SC Cambuur

After eight months without a club, Schindler signed a one-year contract with the Dutch second division club SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden in July 2018 . After 15 league appearances in the summer of 2019, this was not renewed, and Schindler then ended his career.

Coaching career

Schindler signed a one-year contract as assistant coach at HB Tórshavn in early 2020 .
