Kevin Schmidt (born February 14, 1986 in Markham , Ontario ) is a Canadian - German ice hockey player who has been under contract with the EC VSV in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since 2019 .

Career

Kevin Schmidt began his career as a hockey player with the St. Michael's Buzzers, for which he was active from 2002 to 2005 in the Ontario Junior Hockey League . The German / Russian / Canadian compatriot then attended Bowling Green State University for four years , for whose ice hockey team he also played in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the 2009/10 season , the defender made his debut in professional ice hockey for the ECHL Wheeling Nailers . In 50 games he scored 30 points scorer, including seven goals. In the 2010/11 season , the Canadian with German nationality played for the Hanover Indians in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey . There he was also able to convince and scored 35 scorer points in a total of 48 games, eleven of them goals.

For the 2011/12 season Schmidt was signed by the Hamburg Freezers from the German Ice Hockey League . Although Schmidt had a contract until 2017, the end came in Hamburg in May 2016 when the Freezers did not apply for a license for the 2016/17 season. At the end of June he was presented as a new addition to the Dornbirner EC from the EBEL . For the 2017/18 season he moved back to the German Ice Hockey League and joined the Iserlohn Roosters .

His father Horst was born in Stuttgart , but immigrated to Canada with his parents as a baby.
