Patrick Bjorkstrand (born July 1, 1992 in Herning ) is a Danish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the EC VSV in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since 2019 . Bjorkstrand is the son of former ice hockey player and current coach Todd Bjorkstrand . He is also the older brother of NHL player Oliver Bjorkstrand .

Career

Patrick Bjorkstrand took his first steps on the ice in Denmark with his hometown club Herning Blue Fox in the Metal Ligaen . With them he won the Danish championship in 2011 and 2012. For the 2012/13 season he moved to the Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan to Mora IK .

From 2013 to 2016 Björkstrand played for Medveščak Zagreb in the Continental Hockey League . In the course of the 2014/15 season, however, he also played for half a year with the Finnish first division club SaiPa Lappeenranta . He played a total of 170 games in the KHL and scored 50 points.

On July 14, 2016, he signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL). He played the season, however, exclusively for their farm team Ontario Reign from the American Hockey League (AHL).

After the season, Bjorkstrand finally returned to Finland and signed a contract with KooKoo Kouvola in the Liiga on August 3, 2017 . He left Finland in February 2018 and joined the Nürnberg Ice Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League until the end of the season .

After his contract in Germany expired, he moved back to Finland and joined Turun Palloseura from the Liiga.

International

Bjorkstrand has been a Danish international since 2009 . He took part in the World Cup in 2013 , 2014 , 2015 and 2016 .
