Kiesza
Kiesa Rae Ellestad , stage name Kiesza [ ˈkaɪza ], (born January 16, 1989 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a Canadian singer-songwriter . She is best known for her debut single Hideaway .
Life
Kiesza was born and raised in Calgary . She is of Norwegian descent. Their ancestors come from Fagernes in Norway. Kiesza was an active sailor at SALTS (Sail and Lifetime Training Society) at the age of 16 , where she claimed to be enthusiastic about making music for the first time. A year later, she and her brother joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a reservist , where she worked as a code decoder. She also took part in the Miss Universe Canada beauty pageant . During her time in the Navy, she gave away 4,500 copies of her debut CD to Canadian soldiers stationed in Afghanistan.
She wrote her first song when she was 18. The reason was the separation of their parents. This quickly got onto the radio and helped her record a demo tape.
Musical career
Early beginnings
The radio station CKUA chose her to perform live in Tom Coxworths radio show. Shortly thereafter, she was accepted at Selkirk College in Nelson, where she studied keyboard, singing and guitar. Next Kiesza got a scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston . After visiting Berklee, she moved to New York City to advance her musical career. Although Kiesza used to work mainly as a folk singer, she changed her style of music to a "faster sound", for which she worked with producer Rami Samir. In 2010 she was selected to play in front of 30,000 people on Canada Day in Trafalgar Square , London. In 2013 Kiesza was on the single trigger finger of Donkeyboy heard.
Kiesza also wrote pieces for other artists such as Rihanna , Kylie Minogue and Icona Pop .
2014: Hideaway
In February 2014 Kiesza released the video for her single Hideaway on the indie label Lokal Legend . Idolator saw it as unique in that the video was shot uncut as a one shot and showed Kiesza walking and dancing down a street in Brooklyn. Rolling Stone's John Gentile called her style "impressive". It was premiered by Annie Mac on her broadcast on BBC Radio 1 . Hideaway debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart on April 26, 2014 .
Shortly after Hideaway was recorded, Kiesza released a new video for her cover of Haddaway's song What Is Love . The debut album Sound of a Woman was released in October 2014.
