Kimberley "Kim" Murray (born November 1, 1988 in Newport , Isle of Wight ) is a British skeleton pilot .

Career

In 2014, Kimberley Murray took part in the Power2Podium program, switching from athletics to skeleton . She made her international debut in the 2015/16 season in the North American Skeleton Cup . On March 17, 2016, she made her debut in Lake Placid and finished the race in sixth place. One day later, she finished tenth in the second race on the Mount Van Hoevenberg Olympic bobsleigh run . In the 2016/17 season she competed in the European Skeleton Cup and made her debut in this racing series on November 4, 2016 in Sigulda . She fell in the second run and did not finish after she had been in 16th place after the first run. A week later, on November 10, 2016, she successfully finished her first race in the European Cup with 16th place in Innsbruck . A day later, she finished twentieth in the second race on the Igls bobsleigh rink .

After finishing twelfth place in the two races at Königssee on November 17 and 18, Kimberley Murray competed in St. Moritz on January 12, 2017 after the turn of the year and took the Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz – Celerina took fourth place in the German triple victory of Maxi Just , Tamara Seer and Hannah Neise . A week later, at the race in Altenberg, she took third place behind Tamara Seer and Luisa Hornung , the first podium of her career. A day later, she finished fourth in the second race on the DKB ice channel. At the end of the season she finished fifth in the overall ranking of the European Cup with 243 points.

At the start of the 2017/18 season , Kimberley Murray competed in the Skeleton Intercontinental Cup and made her debut in this racing series on November 4, 2017 in Whistler . As in her debut in the European Cup , she also crashed in the debut in this racing series in the second run, after finishing only 20th and last place in the first run. A day later, due to the fall, she did not take part in the second race at the Whistler Sliding Center , although she was registered. A week later she was able to successfully finish an Intercontinental race in Calgary for the first time. She was able to take fourth place behind the German Anna Fernstädt and the two Canadians Madison Charney and Lanette Prediger . In the second race in La Plagne, which was held the following day, she missed another podium with fourth place. After the turn of the year, she was unable to match the performances of Calgary and La Plagne in both the Intercontinental Cup and the European Cup . At the end of the season she finished ninth in the overall ranking of the Skeleton Intercontinental Cup with 486 points.

At the beginning of the 2018/19 season , she competed again in the European Skeleton Cup . In the first race of the season, she finished fourth in Innsbruck on November 16, 2018 . In the second race on the artificial ice rink Bob-Rodel Igls , which was held one day later, she finished second behind her teammate Madelaine Smith and ahead of the German Janine Becker . A week later she was able to celebrate her first success in the European Cup in Winterberg . In the Veltins ice arena , she secured victory ahead of Janine Becker and Madelaine Smith. Although she only contested these three races in the 2018/19 European Cup season, at the end of the season she finished second in the overall standings with 190 points.

After her victory in Winterberg, she made her debut in the Skeleton World Cup in Sigulda on December 9, 2018 , finishing in 13th place. After the turn of the year it started on January 18, 2019 in Innsbruck . Not only was a skeleton World Cup race held there, but the European skeleton championship was also held race-in-race . While Kimberley Murray took 20th place in the World Cup, she finished the European Championships in 15th place. On February 22, 2019, she was able to achieve a top ten result for the first time in seventh place at the last World Cup of the 2018/19 season in Calgary . After failing to make it into the top 15 riders in the first three World Cup races of the 2019/20 season , Kimberley Murray was able to achieve her best result of the season with eighth place on January 17, 2020 in Innsbruck . A week later she took part in the two races in the Intercontinental Cup in Lake Placid . On January 23, 2020, she finished fifth in the first race. One day later she secured her first victory in the Intercontinental Cup at the same time as the American Katie Uhlaender in the second competition on the Mount Van Hoevenberg Olympic bobsleigh run . Third place went to Sara Roderick from the United States.

After participating in the two Intercontinental Cup races, Kimberley Murray returned to the World Cup and finished 14th in St. Moritz on January 31, 2020 . At the last World Cup of the season in Sigulda , she finished in tenth place, another top ten result. She also took tenth place at the Race-in-Race European Skeleton Championships . The World Cup season 2019/20 she finished with 626 points to 18th place. In addition to Laura Deas and Madelaine Smith , she was able to qualify for the first time in her career for the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships . After three runs on the ENSO ice track , she finished 23rd in the individual competition of the 2020 Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships and thus missed the fourth run.
