Kimbo slice
Kimbo Slice (born Kevin Ferguson February 8, 1974 in Nassau , † June 6, 2016 Margate , Florida ) was an American street and mixed martial arts fighter.
He became known through various amateur videos on the Internet in which he fought fistfights (so-called bare knuckle fights) against various opponents in backyards . Since the end of his career as a street fighter, Slice has worked as a professional martial artist in the field of mixed martial arts (MMA). Slice was trained by Bas Rutten for the start in MMA .
Private life and death
In his teens he was a football player at Miami Palmetto High School. He later worked for a while as a bodyguard for the porn film company RK Netmedia. He lived with his family in Miami and had six children. On June 6, 2016, he was admitted to a hospital in Margate and died of heart failure before he could receive a heart transplant .
Career
Slices most tester fight was the duel against the former policeman Sean Gannon from Boston . It was the only bare knuckle match in which Slice was defeated by his opponent. However, the fight was controversial as Gannon resorted to unfair means and slapped his left knee twice in the face of Slice. Rolling Stone magazine called Slice the king of internet whackers .
Slice made his MMA debut on June 23, 2007 in Atlantic City against the then 46-year-old former WBO heavyweight champion Ray Mercer . Slice won both this encounter and his two following fights against Bo Cantrell and Tank Abbott in the first round. However, these opponents did not embody the world's best in MMA or had their heyday behind them.
On May 31, 2008 Slice met James Thompson on his most demanding opponent to date. Slice had big problems in the fight with Thompson, who had recently lost three fights in a row. Thompson could not take this victory home with him after he was hit in the ear by a powerful Schwinger in the third round, which then began to bleed badly. His next fight was Slice in October against the also unbeaten Brett Rogers, who challenged him publicly. However, this fight did not come about, they would rather let him play against Ken Shamrock . Since Shamrock injured himself during a warm-up session shortly before the fight, a replacement opponent had to be found quickly. The decision was made for Seth Petruzelli , a fighter who had already fought for the UFC and in the K-1 . Slice lost that fight after 14 seconds in the first round after Petruzelli punched him to the ground and hit him with further blows before the referee called off the fight. Slice received $ 35,000 per second for this fight. In 2008 he played the aggressive inmate Bludge in the movie Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh .
In February 2016, Slice tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone after a fight and found an irregularity in his blood count. The fight was then removed from the rating.
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Slice has been the President of the 2009 Ultimate Fighting Championship , Dana White , who was watching the talented contender for some time, invited to fight for a place in the organization. He participated in the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter , where he lost in the Preliminary Round Roy Nelson . He convinced White by beating Houston Alexander on points in the final.
His first official heavyweight fight in the UFC he lost on May 8, 2010 at UFC 113 in Montreal against Matt Mitrione . He then left the UFC. Slice declared his MMA career over and announced that he would start a career in boxing.
