Kisköre is a Hungarian city in Heves County in Heves County , which is located on the southern tip of Lake Tisza in the Great Plain .

geography

Kisköre is located in northeast Hungary, about 20 kilometers southeast of the county town of Heves . Eger county seat is located a good 50 kilometers north. Kisköre is located on the Tisza , which was dammed at this point in the 1970s to regulate the flood waters to Lake Tisza . The lake was therefore originally called Kiskörei-víztározó ("Kiskörer Reservoir"). Along with Tiszafüred and Poroszló, the city is one of the largest towns on Lake Tisza.

history

Archaeological finds show that the area around today's city of Kisköre was inhabited by people around 4000 years ago. In the period between 324 and 337, part of the fortifications of the Limes Sarmatiae were built near the present-day town on the line connecting the Danube and Tisza . The settlement was first mentioned in 1323 as Kure . Later the names Kerey and Kywre are also used . The place has officially been called Kisköre since 1901.

For a long time, the inhabitants of the village lived mainly from agriculture and fishing in the Tisza. After the Reformation , the majority of the population was Protestant, and in 1777 the first church was built in the baroque style. At the end of the 19th century, Kisköre was connected to the Hungarian railway network when a continuous line from Kisterenye in the northern Mátra Mountains to Kisújszállás was opened in 1890 . At Kisköre, the route crossed the Tisza on what was then a 780 m long bridge.

In the course of the regulation work on the Tisza from the middle of the 19th century the flood plains of the river became usable for agriculture, which experienced a boom as a result. Between 1967 and 1973 a dam was built near Kisköre through which Lake Tisza was dammed. From the late 1980s, tourism then played an important role in Kisköre. Among other things, a beach, a campsite and a boat rental were built in the village.

Kisköre has had town charter since 2005.

Town twinning

Kisköre maintains official city partnerships with three locations:

Attractions

  • Country house ( Tájház ), built in 1856, with a local museum
  • Roman Catholic Church Szent Péter és Pál apostol , built in 1777

Transport and infrastructure

The single-track, non-electrified railway line Kisújszállás - Kál -Kápolna runs through Kisköre . There are currently (as of 2016) six pairs of trains running on this route per day, which also connect the city with Heves . There are bus connections to Budapest , Debrecen , Gyöngyös , Eger , Tiszafüred and Jászberény , among others .

At Kisköre, rail and car traffic cross the Tisza together in one lane on the single-lane Kiskörei tisza-híd . Built in 1890 as a pure railway bridge, it has been replaced several times by more modern structures over the years. It is (as of 2007) the third longest railway bridge in Hungary.

A run-of-river power plant is located at the Kiskörer dam at river kilometer 404 of the Tisza , which is the largest of its kind in Hungary with an installed capacity of 28 MW.
