The piano duo Stenzl is a German piano duo . It has been formed for more than 30 years by the brothers Hans-Peter Stenzl (* 1960) and Volker Stenzl (* 1964) from Schwäbisch Gmünd .

"Soloist with four hands"

The brothers studied in Stuttgart (Renate Werner) and London (Frank Wibaut, Hamish Milne , Stephen Kovacevich and Alfred Brendel ), Hans-Peter Stenzl also with Herbert Seidel in Frankfurt am Main. The two pianists passed the solo and duo concert exams with distinction. They also received important artistic impulses from Bruno Canino and Norbert Brainin . Her career began in 1986 with the ARD competition in Munich. Ten other prizes at national and international music competitions followed . In 1991 the Stenzls made their debut at the Salzburg Festival .

The conductors Helmuth Rilling , Karl Anton Rickenbacher , Gerd Albrecht , Max Pommer , Wolf-Dieter Hauschild , Wolfgang Schäfer , Hans Michael Beuerle , Hartmut Haenchen , Wayne Marshall , Thomas Hengelbrock , Gustavo Dudamel and others have invited the Stenzls as soloists.

At the Rostock University of Music and Drama , the Stenzl brothers have jointly led a master class for piano duo since 1999, from which numerous international award winners have emerged. Since November 1, 2012, they have held the world's first chair for piano duo there. In November 2018, the then Education Minister Birgit Hesse personally recognized this original endowed professorship and transferred it to a permanent position for Professors Stenzl.

Hans-Peter Stenzl also teaches at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts (solo and duo), Volker Stenzl at the Trossingen University of Music (solo and duo).
