The Reitzendorf smallholder museum is an agricultural museum operated by the local heritage association in the Reitzendorf district of Dresden .

location

The museum is located in Reitzendorf, a part of the town of Schönfeld-Weißig located 13 kilometers east of Dresden city ​​center . This village, located in the middle of the Schönfeld highlands , was not incorporated into Dresden until 1999 and, in contrast to the places in the nearby Elbe valley, has retained its rural, rural character to this day. The smallholder museum is located in a typical local farm in the center of the village on the road to Schullwitz . This three-sided courtyard consists of a stable house , a pull-out house and a barn . The buildings erected in the 19th century are under monument protection and are accordingly included in the list of cultural monuments in Reitzendorf .

All three buildings as well as the courtyard and garden will be turned into museums, as an event location or as the seat of the “Heimatverein Schönfelder Hochland e. V. ”, especially the rooms inside. These include, among other things, a kitchen-cum-living room with an oven, a living room , a bedroom , the stable and the barn with the threshing floor on the two floors of the stable house .

In the smallholder museum, public and closed events are held, including club meetings, readings , festivities and various projects.

Exhibitions

The original interior of the building is designed as a permanent exhibition. The individual rooms were renovated and then furnished again authentically and true to detail. They contain a rich collection of evidence of rural living and working culture from a period of several decades. In addition to the old furniture, objects of everyday use can be seen. Many of the devices, agricultural machines and tools are no longer used by farmers because they have been replaced by more modern things. Thus, the exhibition offers a comprehensive and good insight into the life and economy of the former smallholders . The basis of this collection is the legacy of the last occupants of the house. It was supplemented by the private collection of homeland researcher Eberhard Pabst. There were also numerous donations in kind from the population.

Every three months, changing exhibitions are presented in the moving-out house, for example photo shows on specific topics or paintings by regional artists.

A printed museum guide is available, and there are regular guided tours.

The buildings of the small farmer's museum themselves were used as farms until the GDR era. The family lived here until 1984, and their household effects are an essential part of the collection.

In 1991 the “Heimatverein Schönfelder Hochland e. V. ”, whose goals include preserving the local historical character of the Schönfeld highlands and maintaining and researching the region's cultural assets .

In 1992 the association set up the small farmer's museum and has been running it since it opened on October 3, 1992. The museum is funded by the cultural office of the state capital Dresden and the town of Schönfeld-Weißig.
