The Klemmbach , literally brook from or in the "Klemm" , here synonymous with " Klamm ", is a brook in the southern Markgräflerland .
Its sources are located at the Sirnitz residential area of the community of Müllheim (Baden) (1114 m) by the pond (1143 m) and Raukopf (1071 m) on the pass between the southern Black Forest peaks Belchen (1414 m) and Blauen (1165 m).
course
The Klemmbach has a length of 20.1 km, making it one of the more important streams in the southwestern Black Forest. He is part of the river water body 30 with the portions -01 and -03 and flows in Klemmbach- or Weilertal the FFH area 8311-241. Its course is now largely defined and straightened in the districts of Badenweiler Schweighof and Oberweiler, in the urban area of Müllheim with its suburb Niederweiler and in the urban area of Neuchâtel as in the course of the two Runzen. The western ramp of the Sirnitz Pass is roughly based on the course of the river.
The winning designations Grien and rock gardens in the urban area of Müllheim indicate that there used to be much wider gravelly scree areas; the trade names Sterchele and Kleinfeldele on the former irrigation areas for the waste water in Müllheim in its lower town in Müllheim.
The main direction of flow of the Klemmbach is from east to west. At the western end of the city Müllheim he is the "part Stock" from 1833 in the hills Heimer and Neuchatel runs (see section Runzen divided) Note to earlier meadow irrigation in the Rhine valley. The latter is still referred to as Klemmbach (topographic map 1: 50,000). Since the straightening of the Rhine in 1850 under the design of the engineer Johann Gottfried Tulla of Klemmbach flows Verdolung in the urban area Neuenburg (230 m) below the railway line Müllheim-Mulhouse and the Federal Highway 378 and into the " Wuhrloch " in the northwestern part of the city. This " Wuhrloch " is a remnant of a Rhine Kolk from the time when Neuchâtel was still directly on the Rhine. Part of the inflow seeps away there. After Verdolung , the overflow of the former Kolks leads under the federal motorway 5 and the Rhine side dam shortly after Rhine kilometer 199 at the water and shipping office Freiburg, outpost Neuchâtel (or building yard of the city of Neuchâtel), to the outlet structure on the flank of the east-side dam to the Old Rhine.
The Hügelheimer Runs seeps away between Neuchâtel's districts of Zienken and Grißheim in the gravel floodplain of the riparian forest on the Old Rhine .

bridges
In Schweighof and below four, in Oberweiler and below also four pieces, in Niederweiler three, in the locality of Müllheim currently (2009) ten pieces, west of federal highway 3 another three.
Use of hydropower
The hydropower of the Klemmbach was often used economically early on. a. for the operation of several mills for grain processing, sawing and gypsum crushing.
fishing
The main fish species are rainbow trout, brown trout, perch and roach.
Fishing rights:
In Müllheim formerly a manorial fief of a local lord of the castle (Rosenburg), at times also of the bailiff WL von Habsperg. Then until 1848 on the part of the grand ducal domain owner through leasing; ceded to the municipality in 1853 by paying 49 guilders and 12 kreuzers. This has since leased the fishery.
Flood prevention
Between Niederweiler and Müllheim there is a flood retention basin, the so-called Tritschler basin (after the former sawmill of the same name on the north bank). Retention volume currently approx. 80,000 m³. This is to be "strengthened" in the next few years by excavating, raising the dam and expanding it to 180,000 m³.
Wrinkles
Runzen are watercourses artificially created by humans for joint economic use (e.g. irrigation or drainage, mill operation, energy generation), see also Runzgenossenschaft .
At the Neuchâtel entrance to the Neuchâtel Runs there is a model renaturation with floodplains.
The Hügelheimer Runs are used in particular to relieve the Klemmbach in flood conditions in its western lower course towards Neuchâtel, also known as the Neuchâtel Runs . This Hügelheimer arm crosses under the Rhine valley route of the Deutsche Bahn in its course northwest of Müllheim ; The culvert structure there represents a bottleneck in the event of a flood due to the limited flow volume, so that in advance large arable land between the Müllheim suburb of Hügelheim, the federal highway 3 running there and the railway embankment are designated as flooding and retention areas. The water and soil association Hügelheimer Runs is responsible for their maintenance, care, ensuring the performance and the solution of any technical problems that may arise . It was launched in 1969 as the successor to the Hügelheimer Runs Water Cooperative, which was founded in 1935 . The task is currently (2010) shared by the neighboring communities of Müllheim (69% share), Neuchâtel and Buggingen (15% each) and Auggen (1%). The term of office for the association's chairmanship is five years; the association assembly also elects the deputy. The supervisory authority is the district office; this also checks the respective annual accounts. No investments are planned for 2011.
outlook
As part of the Neuchâtel to the Rhine project , when planning to host the Baden-Württemberg State Horticultural Show in Neuchâtel in 2022 , considerations are being made of revealing the dulling between the Wuhrloch and the Old Rhine.
