Contact. The art collection of the Erste Group and ERSTE Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Contact. The art collection of Erste Group and ERSTE Foundation was founded in 2004 as an independent association by Erste Bank , Česká spořitelna and Slovenská sporiteľňa . The collection is dedicated to the artistic developments in Central , Eastern and Southeastern Europe , which were hardly anchored in recent art history or in the public consciousness up to this point. With this focus on the art production of the radically changing political geographies of Europe, Kontakt has a special status within public and private collections .

The aim of the collection is to let the works wander through museums and exhibition halls in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe and other countries (“nomadic collection”). The collection is available in whole or in part for museums and exhibition houses around the world in order to support public institutions whose financial situation is often fragile. With the scientific funding of publications and artist archives, Kontakt enables the still inadequately researched art of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe to be comprehensively inscribed in a global art history.

Advisory Board

An international art advisory board consisting of Silvia Eiblmayr , Georg Schöllhammer , Jiří Ševčík, Branka Stipančić and Adam Szymczyk decides on the purchases against the background of a consistent conception and exhibition practice. The thematic focus is on dealing with specific aspects of contemporary art in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. The individual approaches of the individual members enable both a differentiated consideration of specific subject areas and the focus of the collection.

management

In 2014 the curator Kathrin Rhomberg became chairwoman of the board of the sponsoring association “Kontakt. The art collection of the Erste Group and ERSTE Foundation ”. From 1990 to 2001, Rhomberg was curator and head of the exhibition office of the Vienna Secession , and in 2000 co-curator of Manifesta 3 in Ljubljana . From 2002 to 2007 she was director of the Kölnischer Kunstverein and in 2010 she curated the 6th Berlin Biennale .
