Krzyżowice ( German Kreisewitz ) is a village in the Polish rural community Olszanka ( Alzenau ) in the Brzeski powiat of the Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

Krzyżowice is located in the eastern part of Lower Silesia in the Brieger Land. The village of Krzyżowice is located about three kilometers east of the municipality seat Olszanka , about 13 kilometers southeast of the district town Brzeg and about 35 kilometers northwest of the voivodeship capital Opole .

Krzyżowice is located in the Nizina Śląska (Silesian Plain) within the Równina Wrocławska (Wroclaw Plain) . The Droga wojewódzka 401 provincial road begins in Krzyżowice and leads to Stobrawa . The provincial road Droga wojewódzka 462 also runs through the village . West of the village is the Pępicki Potok (German Pampitzer Bach), also called Pępicki Kanał (German Pampitzer Canal).

The place was first named Crisowiz in 1288 . The place name is derived from the determination of the place, the border village .

After the First Silesian War in 1742 Kreisewitz and most of Silesia fell to Prussia .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community Kreisewitz belonged to the district of Brieg in the administrative district of Breslau from 1818 . In 1845 there was a castle, an outbuilding, a Protestant church, a brewery, a distillery and another 60 houses in the village. In the same year, 421 people lived in Kreisewitz, 18 of them Catholic. In 1874 the district of Alzenau was founded, to which Kreisewitz was incorporated. In 1885, 325 people lived in Kreisewitz.

In 1933 there were 420 people in Kreisewitz, and in 1939 there were 403 people. Until 1945 the village belonged to the district of Brieg .

As a result of the Second World War, Kreisewitz fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . The place was subsequently renamed Krzyżowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place became part of the newly founded Powiat Breszki ( Brieg district )

Attractions

  • The Church of St. Maria Himmelfahrt is a scrap wood church from the 15th century. The wooden tower dates from 1580. Until 1945 the church was used by the Protestant community. Inside there are wall paintings from the 15th century, which were uncovered in 1963. The church has been a listed building since 1964.
  • The Kreisewitz castle in the 19th century in the classical built style. The building now serves as a residential building.
