Michelau Castle and St. Hedwig's Church
St. Joseph Church

The place was first mentioned in 1210 as Michalowo in the deed of foundation of the Kamenz monastery . The place name is derived from the founder of the village, the village of Michael .

In 1615, Duke Christian von Brieg gave Michelau town and market rights. During the Thirty Years War both rights were lost and were renewed in 1670.

In 1721 Michelau was sold to the Kamenz monastery. After the First Silesian War in 1742, Michelau and most of Silesia fell to Prussia .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Michelau belonged to the district of Brieg in the administrative district of Breslau from 1818 . In 1845 there was a Protestant church, a Protestant school, a Catholic church, a Catholic school castle, a brewery, a distillery and another 171 houses. In the same year, 939 people lived in Michelau, of which 264 were Catholic and four were Jewish. In 1874 the district of Michelau was founded. In 1885, 1045 people lived in Michelau.

In 1933 there were 843 people in Michelau, and in 1939 there were 778 people. Until 1945 the village belonged to the district of Brieg .

As a result of the Second World War, Michelau fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . The place was subsequently renamed Michałów and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place became part of the newly founded Powiat Breszki ( Brieg district )

The church initially formed a chapel and was expanded between 1820 and 1833. Between 1910 and 1912 the church tower was built in the neo-baroque style. The church has been a listed building since 1959 and the castle since 1965.
