In 1970 and 1983 the club won the CAF Champions League , and between 1967 and 1993 the team was defeated a total of five times in the finals of the most important African club competition. In January 2010, Asante Kotoko was named the “ Most Successful African Association of the 20th Century” by the IFFHS .

history

The name refers to the people of the Ashanti (in Twi Asante), whose capital is Kumasi, and the national animal of the Ashanti, the porcupine (in Twi Kotoko). Therefore, when the club was renamed to its current name, the head of the Ashanti, the Asantehene , had to be asked for permission. In addition, the current Asantehene is always honorary president of the club. The club's motto is Kuma Apem A, Apem Beba and means something like If you kill a thousand, a thousand new ones will come and is intended to represent the invincibility of the club.
