Bernd Altenstein (* 1943) | 1991 | The world in front of the town hall - Expressive, figurative and symbolic, Professor Bernd Altenstein (LINK) presented his view of the world on the square in front of the town hall. A globe through the surface of which people break out - individually, as a couple, in groups. Continental floes burst open - and indicate that the planet is threatened. The expression of the figures shows forms of human existence: threat, hope, security, suffering, flight and effort. A sculpture that, when viewed from different angles, always releases new associations.

Flying cranes at the Holterhöfchen | Am Holterhöfchen 20 51 ° 9 ′ 57.3 ″ N , 6 ° 56 ′ 45.2 ″ E |
Erich Fritz Reuter (1911–1997) | 1959 | Flying Cranes (Bronze, 1964) Powerful striving
The group of five, slightly abstracted cranes, strives dynamically upwards. Beaks, necks and legs form lines that point upwards. Tension results from the arched arrangement. With his work, the Berlin sculptor Professor Erich Fritz Reuter may also tie in with the upswing mood of the time of the “economic miracle”. The approximately 3.50 meter high sculpture is on the south bank of the large lake in the green area at "Holterhöfchen". |

Emil Jungblut (1888–1955) | 1939 | On the itter side of the Mühlenstraße residential park, this naturalistic monument commemorates Berta Bruchhausen, the last master of the twisting mill at the Spindler textile factory, where she worked for over 40 years. Berta Bruchhausen started out as one of the many unskilled girls there. In her left hand she is holding a reel on which her serious gaze is directed. From the shoelaces to the facial features to the bow of the work coat, Emil Jungblut has depicted the details true to life. |

The last hand weaver, Carl Hasbach | Hochdahler Strasse 84, corner of Berliner Strasse 51 ° 10 ′ 15.8 ″ N , 6 ° 56 ′ 25 ″ E |
Rudolf Zieseniss (1883–1959) | 1929 | In the middle of the 19th century, technology found its way and the decline of hand weaving could no longer be stopped. Carl Hasbach was the last hand weaver in Hilden. In 1913 he delivered the last workpiece made at home to the Kampf & Spindler company . He was photographed from all sides. The photos served as templates for the bronze monument. Smoking a pipe, dressed in the good skirt, shouldered the tree with the bobbin sack hanging on it. The bronze sculpture was initially placed in front of the Kampf & Spindler administration building on Klotzstrasse in 1929. (today Hotel am Stadtpark).

Pandora | Mittelstrasse 10 51 ° 10 ′ 8.9 ″ N , 6 ° 56 ′ 20.9 ″ E |
Karl-Henning Seemann (* 1934) | 1998 | Pandora (bronze, 1996/97)
The evil of mythology in the modern age With the entrance of the Sankt-Jacobus-Kirche behind, this modern Pandora plunges into the hustle and bustle of commerce and consumption in the pedestrian zone. The evils of civilization wells up from the container on her left hip: money, violence, media overload. The sculptor Professor Karl-Henning Seemann designed the two-meter-high, partly roughly modeled bronze sculpture on behalf of the city as a counterpart to the sculpture "Urgent Buyer" at the other end of the shopping area. |

Wilhelm Fabry (1560-1634) | Mittelstrasse 66, Markt 51 ° 10 ′ 6.2 ″ N , 6 ° 55 ′ 58.4 ″ E |
Arnold Künne (1866–1942) | 1911 | With this bronze bust by the Berlin sculptor Arnold Künne, the city created a memorial to the surgeon and pioneer of modern surgery, Wilhelm Fabry (1560–1634). The fact that Künne had to use an engraving as a model for his naturalistic representation is particularly evident in the recessed mouth area. |

Urgent buyer | Mittelstrasse 68 51 ° 10 ′ 5.1 ″ N , 6 ° 55 ′ 56.9 ″ E |
Karl-Henning Seemann (* 1934) | 1992 | Urgent Buyer (Bronze, 1992)
Personified haste in the pedestrian zone From Schulstrasse, the bronze sculpture seems to be rushing into the main shopping zone on Mittelstrasse. A bustling woman is depicted life-size, heavily laden with bulging shopping bags. As naturalistic as some of the features are, on the other hand, Professor Karl-Henning Seemann exaggerates his portrayal by depicting the rush through numerous suggested feet. The counterpart to the “Urgent Buyer” is the sculpture “Pandora”, another work by Seemann in Hilden. With it the artist practices harsh criticism of civilization. It's at the other end of the pedestrian zone. |
|
The tanner | Mühlenstrasse 7 51 ° 10 ′ 10.1 ″ N , 6 ° 56 ′ 15.4 ″ E |
Olaf Höhnen (1933-2009) | 1986 | Life-size a tanner bends over a stretched fur with his scraper knife. The uneven, roughly modeled surface of the bronze sculpture corresponds to the illustrated work process, which, despite being true to nature, evokes the creative process of the sculptor Olaf Höhnen. The sculpture in a small roundabout on Mühlenstrasse is reminiscent of the Jüntgen and Stürmer leather factories that used to be on the site, where leather has been tanned for over 120 years since 1860. Explanations can be found on two manhole covers in front of the plastic.

Heinz Breloh (1940-2001) | 1985 | Life size II (bronze)
Breloh created this object through his body. He circled the material, digging his extremities into it. What was created in the course of this sculptural creative process and what he left behind after this artistic process is the three-dimensional fixation of his life size in processed matter. |

Flower shape | Gerresheimer Straße 20, Old Helmholtz Training Center 51 ° 10 ′ 15.8 ″ N , 6 ° 55 ′ 47.9 ″ E |
Julius Wimmer (* 1932) | 2004 | Flower shape
Cool aesthetics A stylized flower made of stainless steel around 2.5 meters high stands in front of the “Altes Helmholtz” training center on Gerresheimer Straße. The sculptor Julius Wimmer has chosen clear, symmetrically arranged shapes for the petals, which enclose a tapering flower rod inside. The shiny sculpture looks almost like an heraldic symbol. In front of the listed school building from the Wilhelminian era, the work is an eye-catcher that, despite all the modern aesthetics, harmonizes with the building. |

Inge Welsch (* 1935) | 2002 | Wind guide (wood, metal, paint)
Abstract weather vane For the traffic island on Gerresheimer Strasse, the Monheim artist Inge Welsch created a colorful sculpture made of painted wood and metal as the winner of an urban competition. The well-known symbol of the weather vane is included and abstracted here. The “weathercock” is only indicated by organic shapes. The wind moves the sculpture so that it can be interpreted as a symbol of dynamic mobility.

Leonhard Nienartowicz (1924–1995) | 1960 | Sportsman (tubular steel mosaic)
Dynamic pictograms Three stylized athletes are doing gymnastics on the facade of Stadtwerke Hilden Arena. Leonard Nienartowicz's group impresses with its reduction to geometric shapes, its clear composition and the expression of movement and dynamism. In two figures, even the head is detached and shown as a circle or ball. In addition, bright green, irregular mosaic stones are chosen for the left figure and red stones for the right figure. |

Dance in the pyramid | Warringtonplatz 14 51 ° 10 ′ 2.7 ″ N , 6 ° 56 ′ 7 ″ E |
Willy L. Bitter (* 1936) | 1998 | Human pyramid (Stahl, 1999)
Dancing line figures The slim, around eleven meter high, light blue tube construction stretches like a finger into the sky on the Kleiner Warringtonplatz. In the pyramid there are dancing “line figures”, welded “stick figures” that appear almost weightless. While a group of five cavort on the lower level, a couple is dancing towards the sky further up. Bitter interprets pyramids as a symbol of prosperity and peace: "Since ancient times they have adorned cities, including this city, that the love of life is symbolically clear through dancing figures and the whole world is reflected in them". |
