Kurt Hermann Alverdes

Kurt Hermann Alverdes (born March 27, 1896 in Hamburg , † November 17, 1959 in Leipzig ) was a German anatomist and university professor .

Life

As the son of an engineer in Hamburg, Alverdes volunteered when the First World War broke out and was deployed in a machine gun department of the Bavarian Cavalry . During a leave from the front in 1915, he passed the war maturity test in Eutin . For Lieutenant promoted, he became in 1918 the company commander .

After the war ended, he began studying medicine at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg in 1919 and became a member of the Corps Palaiomarchia . During the March fights in central Germany , he fought as a volunteer in the Maercker and Halle Freikorps against the rebellious communists .

After graduating he became in 1923 approved and with the dissertation The epididymis of the house sparrow to Dr. med. PhD . In 1923/24 he became an unscheduled assistant in the Halle anatomy department. For 13 years he went to Königsberg (Prussia) in 1924 , where he worked as an MC with his friends Corps Masovia . At the Albertus University in Königsberg , he became a planned assistant in 1925 and senior assistant at the anatomical institute in 1929. As a Fellow of the Rockefeller Foundation , he worked for ten months at Yale University in 1926 . He turned down the offer of a visiting professorship .

Since 1928 in Königsberg i. Pr. Habilitated Privatdozent and Prosector , he read anatomy, histology and embryology . In 1934 he was appointed a non-official associate professor . In 1937 he represented the vacant chair at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . In the same year he followed the call of the University of Halle to a scheduled extraordinary position .

After the beginning of the Second World War he was called up in 1939/40 as a medical officer for the Army Medical Unit of the Wehrmacht in Leipzig. In 1942 he married Anna-Elisabeth Goesslinghoff . In 1943 Alverdes took the chair at the Philipps University of Marburg . In October 1945 he was released from the University of Halle. After denazification , he was appointed professor with chair and director of the Anatomical Institute at the University of Leipzig in the Soviet occupation zone in 1947 . He stayed in the GDR until his death at the age of 63 .

Memberships

After the end of the First World War, Alverdes was a member of the Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten, from 1919 to 1920 .

During the time of National Socialism he was a supporting member of the SS (1934) and joined the NSDAP on May 1, 1937 ( membership number 5.343.850).

After the end of the Second World War, Alverdes joined the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany in 1946 .
