Kurt Joachim Lauk

Kurt Joachim Lauk (born May 19, 1946 in Stuttgart ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From June 2004 to June 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament for Baden-Württemberg in the European People's Party . From 2000 to 2015 he was President of the Economic Council of the CDU and was a board member of leading German commercial companies.

Life

After graduating from high school in Schwäbisch Hall , he studied Protestant theology and history from 1967 to 1969 and lived in the Evangelical Monastery of Tübingen . Three years later he completed his studies in these subjects at the University of Munich with a master's degree . Funded by the DAAD , he received a scholarship at Stanford University in California, where he worked from 1973 to 1974 as a research assistant (Department of Political Science).

As a result of this "change of subject", he began his doctoral studies in 1975 at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Kiel and completed an MBA at the Graduate School of Business Stanford / California. In 1977 he received his doctorate from Werner Kaltefleiter in Kiel on the subject of the nuclear options of the Federal Republic of Germany . In 1978 he was already working as Vice President of the Boston Consulting Group in Munich. 1984–1989 he was chairman of the management board of Zinser, a textile machine factory , in Ebersbach near Stuttgart. From 1989 to 1992 he was Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi in Ingolstadt and headed the Finance / Business Administration and Marketing department. From 1992 to 1996 he was a member of the board of VEBA AG (today E.ON ) in Düsseldorf as CFO. From 1996 to 1999 he was a member of the Board of Management of Daimler Chrysler AG in Stuttgart; there he was specifically responsible for the commercial vehicles division. Until July 2000 he was a visiting lecturer at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business . In the same year he was elected President of the Economic Council of the CDU.

Three years later, the EBS University of Economics and Law awarded him a professorship " honoris causa ". In the 2004 election to the European Parliament , he ran for position 7 on the list of his party. In July of that year, the Veritas software division appointed him to the board of directors.

Furthermore Lauk member, on the initiative of David Rockefeller , founded the Trilateral Commission .

From June 11th to 14th, 2015 he took part in the 63rd Bilderberg Conference in Telfs-Buchen , Austria .

Political positions

In August 2004, the politician asked the press for a more decisive action by Angela Merkel in relation to the Federal Government's catalog of measures with regard to the health reform and the uncompromising path to unpopular measures:

“We are currently not gaining a profile and are not showing that we are capable of governing. We cannot take the protests into account, especially since the regulations are not particularly anti-social. [...] The dentures must completely be taken from the list of benefits of the statutory health insurance . Every citizen knows that at some point they will need dental replacement treatment. So he can prepare for it in good time. "

“The total duration of the Hartz IV benefits must be limited to a number of years to be determined from the 25th to the 65th year of age so that everyone can adjust to it. If you refuse to work, you have to cut back to the level of the minimum wage in many countries around us, that is to around 400 euros under ALG II . "

From his perspective, he classified the health compromise between the CDU and CSU that was emerging on November 15, 2004 as a “confused concept” .

In August 2010, Lauk positioned himself as one of 40 signatories of the Energy Policy Appeal , a lobbying initiative of the four large electricity companies to promote the extension of the service life of German nuclear power plants. Kurt Joachim Lauk described the German nuclear phase-out as a “laughing stock” .
