La Chaux-des-Breuleux is a municipality in the Franches-Montagnes district in the canton of Jura in Switzerland .
geography
La Chaux-des-Breuleux is 1016 m above sea level. M. , 5 km southeast of the district capital Saignelégier ( linear distance ). The village is situated at an altitude of Jura plateau of Freiberge (French Freiberge ) west of the peat bog La Tourbière .
The area of the 4.1 km² municipal area comprises a section of the gently undulating plateau of the Plateaujura, on which boggy, mostly above-ground drainage-free depressions alternate with limestone peaks . In the north, the area extends to the height west of Chaumont , which is 1088 m above sea level. M. forms the highest point of the municipality. To the east, the municipal area extends into the La Tourbière moor and to the south into the Les Breuleux basin. In 1997, 2% of the municipal area was in settlements, 23% in forests and woodlands, 72% in agriculture and around 3% was unproductive land.
Several individual farms belong to La Chaux-des-Breuleux. Neighboring municipalities of La Chaux-des-Breuleux are Les Breuleux , Muriaux and Saignelégier in the canton of Jura and Tramelan , Mont-Tramelan and Courtelary in the canton of Bern .

With 90 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), La Chaux-des-Breuleux is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Jura. Of the residents, 85.7% speak French, 12.2% speak German and 1.0% speak Dutch (as of 2000). Since 1920 (then 211 inhabitants) the population of La Chaux-des-Breuleux has halved.
economy
La Chaux-des-Breuleux is a predominantly agricultural village with dairy farming and cattle breeding . There are hardly any jobs outside the primary sector. Many workers are therefore commuters and work in Les Breuleux or in Tramelan. Clocks were made in La Chaux-des-Breuleux in the 19th century. Peat was cut in La Tourbière until 1966, and the moor has been a nature reserve since 1975. The 4-star Camping Les Cerneux, which also serves as a reintegration and training center, has also been on the territory of the municipality since 2000.
traffic
The municipality is located off the main thoroughfares and can be reached by a road from Les Breuleux. On December 16, 1913, the Tramelan-Breuleux-Noirmont railway , a predecessor of the Chemins de fer du Jura , opened with a station in La Chaux-des-Breuleux.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1397 as La Chaux . It belonged to the Saint-Imier Abbey , which La Chaux-des-Breuleux gave to the community of Les Breuleux as a fief in 1528. The village was part of the Freiberge rule, which was subordinate to the Duchy of Basel . From 1793 to 1815 La Chaux-des-Breuleux belonged to France and was initially part of the Département du Mont-Terrible , from 1800 it was linked to the Département Haut-Rhin . By decision of the Congress of Vienna , the place came to the canton of Bern in 1815 and on January 1, 1979 to the newly founded canton of Jura. On June 12, 1926, several houses were destroyed by a tornado that also devastated the neighboring village of Les Breuleux.
Attractions
The townscape of La Chaux-des-Breuleux is characterized by typical farmhouses of the High Jura with whitewashed facades and large roofs. Ecclesiastically, the place is dependent on Les Breuleux .
