Lance Reddick (born December 31, 1962 in Baltimore ) is an American actor and musician .

Life

Lance Reddick grew up an only child in his hometown as his much older brother was already out of the house. His mother was a music teacher. The father was a teacher of English and social studies and worked as a criminal defense attorney after studying law. Reddick first attended a Quaker- founded high school in Baltimore , where his parents were employed. After graduation, he went to the University of Rochester , where he majored in acting and physics, gained first experience as an actor and developed an affinity for the works of Shakespeare . Inspired by his mother, however, he aspired to a career as a musician and after a year switched to the renowned Eastman School of Music , which belongs to the same university , where he majored in classical composition for four years .

However, his attempts to gain a foothold as a pop musician failed. The now married father of a daughter had to support his family as a waiter, pizza and newspaper delivery man. He also suffered a severe back injury that made him unable to work for a month. However, he also got his first smaller engagements as an actor and finally decided to use acting as a springboard for a career as a musician. When he was 29, he was accepted into Yale University's Yale School of Drama. After graduating in 1994, he was mainly active on the stage and played minor roles in film and television productions. Among other things, Reddick was in the movies 1998 Great Expectations , a state of emergency and Godzilla to see, and in 2000 in three episodes of the crime series Falcone . He had his first major role in the same year in the film I dreamed of Africa with Kim Basinger .

His role as "Detective John Basil" in twelve episodes of the series Oz - Hell Behind Bars (2000/2001) brought Reddick his breakthrough as an actor. In the successful series The Wire he got the part of "Lieutenant Cedrick Daniels" after several auditions, which he embodied in all 60 episodes from 2002. From 2008 to 2012 he played one of the leading roles in the series Fringe - Borderline cases of the FBI . At the same time he appeared in the fourth and fifth season of the series Lost .

Also in 2008, Reddick released his music album Contemplations & Remembrances .

In 2016 he played the role of "Martin Hatch" in the computer game Quantum Break , and he also appeared in the four live-action episodes.

In the video game Horizon Zero Dawn from 2017, he played the character "Sylens". He will also take on this role again in the announced successor Horizon: Forbidden West .
