Laniwzi (Ukrainian Ланівці ; Russian Лановцы / Lanowzy , Polish Łanow [i] ce , German Lanowitz ) is a small town in western Ukraine . It is the center of the raion of the same name in the Ternopil Oblast and is traversed by the Shyrak (Жирак) river. The population is around 8300 (2006).

On June 9, 2017, the city was the center of the newly established municipality Lanivtsi (Лановецька міська громада / Lanowezka miska hromada ) to this are also the nine villages Jakymiwzi (Якимівці) Juskiwzi (Юськівці) Krasnoluka (Краснолука), Mali Kuskiwzi ( Малі Кусківці), Mychajlivka (Михайлівка), Oryschkivtsi (Оришківці), Sahirzi (Загірці), Tatarynzi (Татаринці) and Volyzja (Волиці). Laniwzi was first mentioned in writing in 1444 and was initially part of the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania in the Voivodeship of Volhynia . After the third partition of Poland , it fell to Russia in 1795, from 1919 to 1939 it belonged to Poland and since the end of World War II to the Ukrainian Soviet Republic ; In 1956 it received urban-type settlement status .

Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union , Lanivtsi has belonged to the independent Ukraine as an urban-type settlement and in 2001 the Verkhovna Rada raised it to the status of a district center.
