Velyki Birky (Ukrainian Великі Бірки ; Russian Великие Борки / Velikie Borki , Polish Borki Wielkie ) is an urban-type settlement in Ternopil Raion of Oblast Ternopil in western Ukraine 11 km east of Oblasthauptstadt Ternopil riverside Hnisna Hnyla located.

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1410 and initially belonged to the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania (in the Ruthenian Voivodeship ). In 1530 he was awarded the Magdeburg city charter.

From 1772 to 1918 he belonged under his Polish name Borki Wielkie to the Austrian Crown Land of Galicia and was most recently part of the Tarnopol district. During this time, the place got a train station in 1875 on the railway line to Podwołoczyska , which was opened in 1871, and in 1897 a line of the local railway Borki Wielkie – Grzymałów was added.

After the end of the First World War , the place became part of Poland (in the Tarnopol Voivodeship , Powiat Tarnopol), was occupied by the Soviet Union from 1939 to 1941 during the Second World War and then by Germany until 1944 and was incorporated into the Galicia district.

After the end of the Second World War , the village was added to the Soviet Union , there the village came to the Ukrainian SSR and has been part of today's Ukraine since 1991. In 1972 the place was given the status of an urban-type settlement , from 1940/1944 to 1962 the place was the center of the Welyki Birky district named after it , after which it came to the Pidvolochysk district until 1966 , since then it has been part of the Ternopil district.
