history

The place is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1564 and received Magdeburg city charter in 1578 . Until 1772 he was in the Podolia Voivodeship , the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania . With the partitions of Poland , the place fell to the Austrian Galicia , but between 1809 and 1815, like the entire Tarnopol district , had to be ceded to Russia.

After the Congress of Vienna , the village came back to the Austrian Empire , from 1850 to 1918 it was initially subordinate to the Kopyczyńce District Authority, and from 1867 to the Husiatyn District Authority . A Jewish community developed in the period that followed. This part of the population was completely murdered or expelled during World War II. In 1896 what was then Chorostków was connected to the railway network through the construction of the Tarnopol – Kopyczyńce local railway.

After the end of the First World War , the place came to the Polish Tarnopol Voivodeship , during the Second World War the city was briefly occupied by the Soviet Union and then by Germany until 1944 .

After the end of the war, the city was added to the Soviet Union , where the city came to the Ukrainian SSR and has been part of today's Ukraine since 1991. In 1977 the place was finally granted city status again.
