history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1373 and initially belonged to the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania (in the Podolia Voivodeship ), Magdeburg city rights were granted in 1747. From 1774 to 1918 it belonged under its Polish name Mielnica to the Austrian crown land of Galicia and from 1854 to 1867 it was the seat of a district administration , after which the district area was divided into the Borszczów district, in the same year a district court was established in the village, which existed until 1918.
After the end of the First World War, the place became part of Poland (in the Tarnopol Voivodeship , Powiat Borszczów), was occupied by the Soviet Union from 1939 to 1941 and then by Germany until 1944 and was incorporated into the Galicia District .
In January 1940, the town was designated the capital of the Melnyzja-Podilska district , which existed until its dissolution in 1962.
After the end of the war the place was added to the Soviet Union , there the village came to the Ukrainian SSR and has been part of today's Ukraine since 1991. After the city charter granted in 1934 was revoked after the war, Melnyzja-Podilska received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1960 .
